And since we're surrounded with countries with those stupid restrictions , have no positive hope for our future as well :(

Maybe Texas doesn't sound too bad after all :p

I agree completely with what has been said here. How long before they ban toothbrushes? They can be sharpened to be pointy... Pointy can kill... Not to mention that they're also cheap, disposable, and non-metallic (will get past metal detectors).
Yeah I lol'd too :p

I'd just like to point out that the whole ebay uk banning knife sales has little to nothing whatsoever to do with any legislation or court case. It's simply a knee jerk reaction to a rather pathetic and sensationalist piece of shoddy journalism.
I've little doubt that our rather pathetic elected representatives would quite happily legislate against private ownership of both knives and guns if they could get away with it. However, they have not done so entirely just yet.

Sam, this does nothing to help us collectors who buy and sell our knives as the mood takes us.

What I can't grasp is are the Gov. and e-bay that stupid that the buyer will not just search the web instead of e-bay, it may be the "big boy" for online sales but by no means the only one, the clip made tones of disaproval out of the customs declarations whats wrong with gift or tool it may of been either.

Customs are miffed as with gift they loose there cut of taxes. That part was in my opinion nothing to do with the article. I say this as an importer who recently has been hit several times by customs as the dollar has fluctuate in value what was non taxable at $39USD suddenly became taxable at $23USD approx. so I was buying what I thought to be tax free goods only to pay vast amounts later.

Also why has the USA be blamed we all know you can get anything from any where in the world, europe into the UK has no tax or customs declaration required, in fact we seem to even let people in with no passports much more damaging than knives in my opinion.

Also, anyone correct me if I am wrong but you must be 18 to use e-bay so how are these knives getting into the hands of children?

Once again the serious law abiding collector and online retailer will suffers for the actions of a few idiots who would stab you with twig if anything else was not at hand.

While I,m ranting a newspaper is a very deadly weapon in the right hands and they pass through metal detectors, should we all cancel our paper delivery?

Ian,
I know it's hardly good news and may well be the thin edge of a pretty nasty wedge for us. I simply wished to make clear to the many non-UK based forumites that the ebay ban has nothing to do with UK legislation. Ebay faced no governmental pressure in this instance. Too many non-UK gun/knife collectors/users are under the misapprehension that guns/knives are illegal in the UK. This simply isn't the case and I feel the need to say it when it's suggested. ;)

dialex wrote:I'm really sick to hear all this so called "polliticaly correctness" BS. Anyone who cares to look over statistics will notice that banning weapons of any kind didn't stop, nor even diminish criminalty. Only the regular, law abiding citizen is left more and more helpless - and he keeps paying for the incompetence of politicians and lawmakers...
Exactly. There was a study in NYC a few years back to determine if carry permits helped or raised the crime level. It was determined that allowing people to apply for a carry permit and conceal a handgun in turn lowered the crime rate significantly, yet people still try to ban firearms and weapons, which as dialex said would only affect the law abiding citizens.

It’s a government-backed diversionary tactic, in collusion with the sensationalist media. Whenever times are hard, what better way to get the people’s minds off job losses, home losses and rising crime of a non-violent nature than go for a sitting duck – the old knife-carrying issue?
Most of the fatal stabbings are in London, and assailants and victims alike are members of a gang-based sub-culture that no amount of policing can eer hope to curb. The problem, as so many wise people have already drawn attention to in this forum, is not knives (or weapons of any description) but PEOPLE, and people so inclined will always find ways of doing away with one another in a sordid and messy manner.
As for the word ‘Chav’, this should be used carefully. It is applied by the media to any member of the burgeoning underclass (as opposed to the proud and noble British working class) who dresses in a certain way, drags a certain breed of terrier around on a lead and is generally a pain in the *** to other members of society. Irritating though these people may be, only a tiny percentage of them are violent knife-users, and for many of them Chavdom is a phase they will grow out of – especially the women!!
Anyway, I have a very overgrown garden to attend to this spring (!) and so I shall use good old eBay UK to obtain a horticultural blade to effect the clearance of brushwood while I still can...
