Great flag, awesome pride. Even though I am not American I will salute you and everyone in Spyderco who have made this obviously time-consuming task. Next to the small one which you can just see in the pics, this one is just glorious ! :D

We have an Aussie flag right outside where I work and it stands (apparently) on the highest point in the Sydney metro area. It is a probably 4 times as large as yours and it does make you a bit proud when you see it waving in the breeze.

Wonderful! It is nice to see a company proud enough to post pictures of the flag raising. I tend to not think about it with all the banks and car dealers that fly the flag. It is nice to take a moment and pay respect to our flag like this.

Thanx for all of the kind comments. It's not really the "official" raising. They installed the pole and had to test the flag and clear the trees. The crew was pretty excited so pics were taken. The lights will be installed (24/7 flags reguire special lighting and Golden requires "dark-sky" lighting) and the "official" raising will take place soon.

The project began in May of '06. The family wanted to put up an American flag to honor American manufacturing. We are at the northern gateway to Golden and we wanted to put up a large flag that "stirs the spirit".

Local laws prohibited a flag pole at the height required. Gail and I began speaking with officials and received repeated "no" answers. As we worked our way up the chain of officials, we learned that the powers that be weren't being obstinate, there was no legal pathway to authorize the variance.

We eventually had an audience with the planning commision and they created a reason; "community pride". They voted forward. We then had an audience with the City council and the Mayor of Golden and they voted ok.

The project took until now to go through the legal process, have a custom "high wind" pole made and installed. a 60' pole and a 20' x 30' flag.

A lesson in persistence and tenacity, and a firm appreciation of our great country.
