Hi Redback,

Sorry for your disappointment. It is a very nice stone.

UF's have been shipping for a few weeks.

There would be no reason why we wouldn't ship to your "usual retailer" if they ordered the item. We are in business to sell product. Perhaps your "usual retailer" should contact Spyderco. There might be some other problem?

Thank you for the response, Sal. :)

If they are shipping now, then clearly the problem you were having with the leather covers is resolved. Not only my usual retailers but many other retailers I checked had no stock (check yourself, enter "306uf stone" into Google and see how the stores that list them still do not have them), but you state that they are now shipping so I guess it's just a matter of time.

redback - Have you tried asking your usual retailer if they have plans to order? Perhaps they don't plan to stock?

i was going to say call you store as spyderco does not just ship out new stuff to every one
they have to order it and alot of times i have to ask "my store" to make sure they order at least one of what i want

This is the email I got from my Spyderco retailer on January 13:
Our normal price would be $82, they are due the end of January. I will post them on the site and send you a link. We will let you know when they arrive.
I hope that answers some questions.

In fact, I ask anyone to go to Google and search for "306UF". The whole first page of hits are "out of stock" and "backordered". So please, stop shooting the messenger, thanks.

I have been meaning to get a Flat Byrd for some time now. How is the fit and finish?

New email from my Spyderco retailer. I asked him when the *&*&% they are arriving, answer:
Not sure, our supplier is telling us mid-March.

redback,
This response from your retailer would tell me that they do not purchase from us directly. Sounds as if they purchase from a Distributor (which we are also shipping to if the Distributor orders them).

Sorry to hear of your troubles.

Tazkristi, I sent your message to the retailer and they responded:
Yes, this is correct, we are not a direct Spyderco dealer, we buy through a distributor. The distributor informs us that they have this item on backorder and expect it in next week, then they will ship it to us, so we should have it by 3/10 or so.
The distributor has not had supply of this item from Spyderco for some reason.
