Dialex, I was wondering what about it you like better? ATS 55 is pretty popular around here with probably most people talking well about it. Is it ease of sharpening? Joe

Never had a problem with ATS34. However, this steel can form a micro burr and you think its sharp, then with use it breaks and the knife is dull.

Hi Joe. It seems to me the abrasion resistance of the ATS-55 is smaller than at the ATS-34, therefore it sharpens easier. The corrosion resistance is about the same at both steels (meaning good, but not that great), however the edge retention is much better at ATS-55.

Thanks for the reply Dialex. To my unscientific mind I always thought the ATS 55 was not as good at holding PE'es, but it did ok with SE. I agree with the corrosion resistance. I agree VG10 beats them all too, untill you begin getting up into the supersteel range. Joe
