Ahh... CF cricket with Damasteel?

At least it'll be cheaper than a larger knife with those materials :D .

So somthing with CF/Ti and steel more excotic than mere ZDP/BG.
Bigger is always better here, I won't use it anyway.

I tend to agree with you Civilian...this will be the first year that I can possibly afford a forum knife and after having been w/the forum for about a year, I would enjoy something special...G10...what about a G10 Cricket? or Dragonfly?
A D4 w/a different color handle?

CF Dodo

What about a Dodo in CF (peel ply for me, please)?
I think - technologically speaking - it would be fairly simple to make the scales out of CF instead of G-10. Not to mention that the Dodo is also designed by a forumite... ;)

I politely disagree. The lead time has not really been that long, and not everyone sees a potential "safe queen" as worth an organ.

When last year's knife was announced, it was in the beginning of April. We were giving one month to submit payment. The anticipated delivery date stated was Jun/Jul. The only "safe" assumption when writing a check, is that it will be cashed at the earliest opportunity. That would have meant you had two month to gather the funds. I know there were long periods of my life where two months would have been far from enough "lead time" to save up for a $200 purchase. I have to assume there are others in similar situations today.

I agree with David, that a more affordable model would be the best way to go.
Assuming the anticipated release date was favorable, one of the new etched stainless knives, the pink Sprint Run Delica, or, as I mentioned earlier, the Saver Salt, all seem like good potential candidates for the role.

I'd second a vote for a H1 knife. Reasonably priced and I'm itching for them anyway :D
Either a Tasman or Saver in SE would be nice...

How about the SS Ladybug, but with etching?

The Saver Salt (yellow) and Waved Rescue would also be good choices.

I'm an admirer of Spyderco's designs. Using them is like immersing yourself in music or studying a painting in a museum. I buy some "fine" art but my preference is for usable art.

Here's just annother idea to throw out there: How about a new necklace knife as a forum knife? I'd vote for a mini harpy or tasman :D

One of the new rescues sounds like fun too, when was the last time a SE blade was the forum knife?

G-10/CF/black micarta handled Scorpius?
A Swick in D-2/BG-42/some more or less exotic steel that's available at Golden for a 500-ish production number?

My ideal Forum Knife

#35

Post by UK KEN »

I would go for a Native I with CF or G10 with a ZDP189 blade......but it has already been used as a forum knife (Blade Forum). The Native III with a blue FRN handle was the Spyderco Forum knife in 2003 so my chances of seeing another Native as a Forum knife aren't good.

People have talked about price but production time for me should be a consideration when we ask for our ideas to be considered. Sal and the team have so many new knives in the pipe line and so much time invested in them that I feel having an existing knife would be a way of taking a little pressure off them.

I would be happy with a blade of 3" or under with an FRN handle that's a new colour. :) It is always going to be special with "Forum Knife 2007 Spyderco.com" engraved on the blade.

Cheers, Ken

I wish this knife would be something unique and special with natural materials for handle. But realistically, in my opinion new 2007 etched Dragonfly, Cricket or pink Delica would be good.
And "Forum Knife 2007 Spyderco.com" engraved on the blade will make this knife unique and special and 10 years later it will remind us about all good time we had here.

My top choices Natives5, Calys, C83 Persian

I still think there should be two (yes two!) forum knives, one a Byrd (I'm thinking some sort of green G-10 crossbill) and one a Spyderco. So we have a cheap option, and a more expensive option, and of course, a both option!

I know it's probably not going to happen, and would put a shed load of work onto Kristi, but a guy can dream...

Good suggestion! I'd personally go with the Catbyrd though, if we're getting something from the Byrd range :D .

Sounds like a winner. The Byrd should be a production line piece, and the Spyderco could be a higher end piece.

What's everyone's favorite American steel? Maybe we could have a Sprint run of a current production Spyderco in a special edition steel?
