Flat ground Chinook is out...
Is it still the chinookII or III ? And are there any more variations, like maybe a FRN handled version, or one with a black blade? :spyder:

I know of no name change, handle change, or blade color change. I have not been an "all variations" collector long enough to know if this change counts enough to be a "variation", that is why I asked.ronin203 wrote:Is it still the chinookII or III ? Am kind of hoping not ZH, sold off my Chinook II becuase it was too bulky for my tastes and the thumb hole location forces me to "over-reach" to open the knife. Does not look like the flat ground version will address either of those issues (not that it should, mind you - nothing can appeal to everyone), so it would just be something to hang a "for sale" sign on.zenheretic wrote:I'm curious to know if this change is enough of a change to be considered a variation? I.E. will the collector's club be activated for the flat grind Chinook?
Now, on the other hand, if Sal were to announce a new version of the C83 Persian, with no other mod than a full flat grind, I'd be almost soiling myself with excitement. :o :D

Based on the fact that your respone is a hope rather than a surity of the CC status, I have to assume this another Collector Club Mystery.

Have yet to hear anything from NGK on this. In fact, this thread is the only place I've seen the physical existence of the flat ground Chinook mentioned. Just a thought, but perhaps Mr. Keating's deal with Spyderco provides for him to receive the first batch shipped.

Well contact from NGK has lost any indicators for collector status...ie no gold pearl kopa for you (or most other collectors) no volpe for me. This at no known fault of NGK of course, just haven't shipped from :spyder: , I have to assume. The Deacon wrote:Your assumption is correct. Have yet to hear anything from NGK on this. The Keating thought would seem only fair, since apparently he has his own web business (I was unaware of that until this thread :o )

Chinook II a Favorite
Tha Chinook II is one of my top 5 Spyderco knives , fits great in my hand , and for light gear deer hunting it is my go to knife although the Manix has proven it can equally do the job . My first impression with the new flat grind was sort of a disapointment , the original blade is to me love at first sight . I always get a WOW factor when anyone wants to see my carry of the day , and everyone compliments the blade .A lot of guys get a smile on their face when they open it and hear the lockback snap shut like a vault . Still the flat grind has its merits and like someone else has suggested a blade blade would win me completely over to make a future order .
I just got a email from NGK, they said as soon as thier old chinook II's are gone they will have the flat ground versions.

Contacted Comtech today and they have one for me. As soon as I finish getting my chinook's I can start onthe Manix. I have handled one and it will easily become my second favorite. I still would like to see a FRN handled flat ground chinook.

I just got off the comtech website and on it they refer to the flat ground chinook as the chinook III. Hmmmm, interesting. :spyder:

Well now that adds fuel to it actually counting as a variant, to my pleasure and the Deacon's dismay. :D I guess the Deacon will be active on the seller's block of bladeforum's in a few weeks. :pronin203 wrote:I just got off the comtech website and on it they refer to the flat ground chinook as the chinook III. Hmmmm, interesting. :spyder:

:spyder: In pakal edge out the Chonook II executes palisut motions like the grim reaper herself! It's a monster of a MBC knife. As Ralpf Nader would say, it's unsafe at any speed! :spyder:
