Well, first you did not leave your post to put another person in your situation...that is one **** of a fine work ethic(not too much of that around these days)
If you were sick you should have pushed the issue to get help so you could go home.
I would for sure make a point of going to the Union and who ever else so that this incident does not happen again.
I think you are well respected at work...but had it been another CO with not so much respect...well you know better than I do what could have happened. Take Care and although it pays the bills you have to look out for number one!!!!

The real question is of course how it is possible that you were the only one who did the right thing.
From the outside it seems quite unbelievable how you all have to do your job out there and what you have to put up with from your 'superiors'. They rise by lack of substance just like anywhere else I guess.
It is however probably not much different over here as I can remember being left alone with inmates on several occasions and not just in a room but in a whole block.

Hi Chad!
Glad to hear you're still in one piece after a shift like that!Yes, you did the right thing by reporting it. Just make sure it is emphasized in such a way that you didn't file a report because you yourself was in an unsafe and bad situation. Make sure the report reads that you are concerned about the future safety of your co-workers, even between the lines. In my job I have to infuse a bit of politics in my reports. I know what kind of person you are, so I know where your real concerns lie. On paper however, such things are easily lost. Especially by a union who no doubt love picking a fight with management, more than making sure you and your co-workers are safe. File a report and make darn sure the context of that report stays as it should be. If nothing comes out of the report, you still have to get back on the floor and work for that supervisor.
Still, I know my fiancee wouldn't let me out the door after hearing something like you posted. Heck, she'd get her trusty boken to practice her 'shomen uchi' on me, everytime I'd even look at the door. You must have a very special spouse to support your career like that.
Isn't there any possibility for you to get into forest/environmental management in your area. I'd love to see the look on possible poachers or polluters when they face the daywalker! Besides I think you would be much happier in a 'dagobah' environment.
Keep up the good work bro!

Chad, you did what I have done on many occasions; did your best under horrendous conditions. Yes, I know precisely the headache you speak of. Had it myself many times.
You're right; you were screwed either way. You were right to stay, I'd try to file paperwork later. See, where I work, no matter WHAT the circumstances, if you file paperwork, you're labeled by EVERYONE (including our union, who's SUPPOSED to be on OUR side) a "troublemaker" or "crybaby". Doesn't matter if a dozen guys were running around with shanks killing people, they still don't want you to grieve it.
Now here's the point I want to make with you:
You carry the same philosophy that I do, which is to do your best, and help everyone in your power to the best of your ability. We're in our professions because God put us there. It's our calling.
Just think of the difference we've already made in countless lives, and how many people we've helped. So what if they're inmates. Maybe they'll have kids one day, and remember the examples we gave them to follow, and it'll help the children.
But here's the crux of the matter, and it's how I've been feeling lately: When have we done enough? Do we do the job until we die? When are we "used up" enough for God's purposes? Have we fullfilled His mission? When should we leave?
These are all questions that have played out in my mind the past few weeks. I know I'm doing good each day. But how long need I continue?
Right now, the only thing keeping me at my job is the lack of another comparably-paying job. I think I've done my time in ****. Yes, I could continue doing good deeds, but eventually, we get used up, I believe.
I don't know, I'm rambling. I'm sick of working in ****, too.

Thanks for reading silverback. Yes, it would appear to be like an excuse in terms of timing, but heck, I know of a LOT of CO's who, before signing in for their watch simply go outside and call in sick on their cel phones once they find out they are working **** Unit!silverback wrote: About the headache, though ... bad timing, makes it look like an excuse to get out of there. ...Glad you managed so well. :)
More man power in this unit would alleviate a LOT of problems there.
God bless you my friend!

Quite a bit better. Still have a bruise on my other leg, though, from where my keys were jammed into my thigh when we were tackled. All in all, doing well physically, thanks.vampyrewolf wrote:So how's the knee treating you, since you're on the topic of work?

Hey Sgt!
Thank you too for reading. To me, there is NEVER an excuse to place staff in an unsafe environment. UNLESS of course it is called for in the line of our duty.
These supervisors are far from leaders. They have so many years into this line of work, that they have become complacent, and just wanna "ride into retirement" if ya know what I mean...They show up, do their 8 and go home.
God bless and stay safe

Ahhhh, ya wanna know the funny thing too that I forgot to mention was when I got this headache, I thought of VW having his caffeine withdrawals! :p
Craig, I tell ya...and I am not just giving myself props or anything, but had it been a staff member who they knew they could wreak havoc with...it'd have been a terrible night. Instead of my having a headache, it would have been frantic radio calls for back up or officer down...IF the control man even knew where the CO was to begin with!

Chad: both of you, thats why I didn't bother with a name :p
sounds like both of you did a number on your knees, early retirement planed on it yet?
Still wearing my leather brace, still playing the waiting game.
40lbs limit at work (indefinately, might change when I finally see the 2nd specialist)... 55lbs to waist in the gym, 30lbs to shoulders is possible but pinches and burns when I bend my wrist to set it up on that shelf.
pulled something in my back at work today, hurts to breathe or bend at all... pushed for 5hrs with it before I came home.

Why do people worry more if you argue with your voices than if you just talk with them? What about if you lose those arguements?
Slowly going crazy at work... they found a way to make the voices work too.
