You mean there will be more coming? Or do you mean after the first batch that was released a second was released?

Here's a comparison of a few Spyderco greens.

I think I recall from reading posts by Roger at Knifeworks that the CC knives usually come out of the order rather than being in addition to the number ordered.

The second batch was an additional 600 making a total of 1200, IIRC.

Edit - See DougC-3's post. He's right, 800/400 not 600/600.

Yes. The edge on these is almost polished, very different from the usual toothy edge on Golden knives.

I thought I remembered that 800 (including CCs) were initially made with an option for an additional 400, but the memory is a year old & fuzzy & probably wrong  ... either way it adds up to 1200 :D But while I'm splitting hairs, I got the impression that the option for additional knives would typically be included in the original contract. But knowing how Sal operates (smart and practical), I'm sure new contracts could be cut when needed :)

I'm thinking you mean because of the characteristics of the steel... or are they ground differently?

By the way, my sharpening knowledge is not very... er... well honed. Is there any reason to sharpen this steel differently from the way you would S110V, D2, or M4? I'm planning to try what Ankerson did with the S110V mule, at first anyway. (I don't plan to sharpen it until it needs it.) IIRC he just used Congress Moldmaster 320 and 400 on the Edge Pro and then stopped, to leave it with a toothy edge. (I also bought the 600 stone.) I'm assuming he intended to continue sharpening it that way and didn't just do it like that for the cutting tests

Nice shots Travvy. I think you've captured the foliage green color pretty well. I think they look a little darker and greener (more dark olive drab-like) when they get older, maybe from skin oils etc. At least I have a used FG PM1 which is a tad darker and greener than my newer FG Dragonfly, which I think is a little darker than when I got it as well. I may post a comparison pic when my Elmax gets here.

(People looking at pictures sometimes don't seem to realize what a great affect exposure and ambient light have on apparent color with digital cameras. It used to be a lot simpler with film :p )

Edit again: also, I AFAIK foliage green is a component of modern digital camo and is said to "pick up" the surrounding colors, like gray or green, which further complicates things.

You're right about the 800/400!

On the Elmax, I don't know. I would guess the equipment hasn't changed so I'd guess the steel is finer-grained, but I really don't know.

I used to sharpen all my edges up to as fine a finish as I could, but reading tests like Jim Ankerson's has persuaded me that some steels seem to do better with less than polished edges. Not sure where Elmax fits in on that spectrum, though - maybe Jim will chime in.

ELMAX is fine grained so the edge will look polished usually.

It does very well with a coarse edge from my past and current experiences with it.

I have one of those ELMAX Para 2's coming to test.....

Don''t forget the $10 for shipping, so $370!!! This was the first one that appeared on eBay. I tapped out at $200, so with the $10 in shipping, I would have saved myself $2.50 (two-fitty) over the BBS price tag. I was knocked out within 6 hours of it appearing, by a $295 bid, which is incredible in and of itself ($80 more than BBS price). I am very curious to see where this one ends up at, it's got about 20 minutes left on the auction. Cheers, Radioactive :)

I don't think eBay accepts buyer's remorse (after they see what they're selling for at BBS) as ground for return ;)

I just makes me think that these folks exist in some kind of weird bubble without access to Google even to try to see if the knife is being offered anywhere else for a more sane price tag (that was not meant to start another BBS-bashing pricing tirade, BTW). Ten minutes left, still holding at $360 (+$10 shipping)

I think many of us have fallen to tunnel vision when shopping on an auction site. We want to win, but we also must know our ceiling. That is why I establish my ceiling before I place the first bid. That way I know when to walk away.
