....which reminds me, all the descriptions of the Swick 3 talk of the jimping above and below the "hole"...I only see jimping on the top of the spine; did I miss something?

No jimping on the bottom of mine. I see the product description says the "Swick3’s enhanced finger-hole design is larger and is complemented by jimping on the adjacent top and bottom surfaces of the tang." I'm guessing that was a misprint, as the pictures I've seen appear to also lack jimping on the bottom.
