The idea that S110V might become a semi-standard steel is quiet amazing, if I'm not misunderstanding where this is going. :spyder:

Amazing, indeed. And I like the idea of associating S110V with midnight blue G10 and FRN.

Looks like I know which version of the Manix I will be picking up. I really wanted one to try out the ball lock, S110V seals the deal.

Will this S110V Manix be regular production or a sprint run?

This one has been on my want list for a long time -- just didn't know what color or steel it would be or if it was really ever going to happen. I've been wanting to try FRN for a while now, and midnight is my favorite shade of blue for knives :D

EDIT: I meant FRCP of course...

The lw manix is frcp not frn, there is quite a tactile difference between them.

I had ignored the LW Manix for a long time because I was mostly interested in G10 scales. I managed to handle the standard blue LW Manix 2 recently and I was so impressed by its light weight that I decided I should look into getting one. I was a little put off by the steel in the standard LW, but in S110V I will ahve to buy one. It will probably be pretty expensive thought. I wouldn't mind one in ZDG 189 or Super Blue if that is possible.

Right, thanks, that was a slip of the brain -- I meant FRCP. I have 5 knives with frn, so I've tried it already :)

Count me in for a Viele Sprint. My local knife shop has three, but they're all SE (don't need any SE VG10 when I've got a Native and Millie SE both in 440V :p ) and two of them are at 100% lockup

Regarding the latest S90V Laminate Para:

Sorry I missed this, Was at the Meet and didn't get much computer time. I think maybe you're reading too much into this.

Crucible contacted us and said; "We've got this new experiment that's really cool and has not been done before, it's ......" Eric and I looked at each other and said Why not?

We weren't thinking about sales, just R&D. They sent us all they had.

Now Crucible has said they'll make enough for us to do a run, so we've ordered it. When we'll get it? How much will come out good? Don't know at this time.

Does this mean we may see more? I'm glad. I would love to try the steel!

And in Cliff's Maxamet steel thread:

I guess you got the small pieces that Ron had. They have agreed that they will make us some, enough for a Mule Team. Ron said he might have a piece around for us to test.

If by "more" you mean more of the CF Para 2's, then it seems the answer is no. According to the Amsterdam meet, we will see more of this steel, but apparently not in the Para 2.
Mr Blonde wrote:Although this very special Paramilitary 2 sprint was already shipping, Eric and Sal brought it along with them to the Amsterdam Meet.

IIRC, the most important reason to try and make this CPM 154/S90v composite blade was ‘to see if it could be done’. I remember Eric explaining that this blade has no real practical benefits over a regular S90V blade. However, it was a very complicated process to successfully combine these two steels in this composite blade. Hopefully, the knowledge gained during this process for this Paramilitary 2 Sprint, will lead to other related innovations that will prove practical. There will be more knives by Spyderco with this type of composite blade, but not in a Paramilitary 2 frame.

Midnight Blue Peel Ply CF for S110V Native 5?

#1235

A midnight blue peel ply carbon fiber - or even something similar to the blue weave CF laminate of the Blue Ridge limited Domino would be amazing on an S110V Native 5. Probably won't happen - and I will be extremely happy to have the regular gray peel ply S110V Native - but the idea of a midnight blue version would be incredible. :D

Does anyone know what colour the soon to be incoming CF S110V Native 5 will be?

Later Note: I've seen a pic of the peel ply CF Native 5 online and it appears to be grey in the pic. I misunderstood the initial quote and thought that midnight blue was the new colour for all S110V knives including the PPCF. Blue PPCF would have been amazing but I also really like the scales on the S90V Manix 2 XL that I have too so I am sure that I will love the knife when it finally ships. The ergos on the Native 5 when gripping when using the choil is really incredible. It fits like a glove into your hands and you have an amazing amount of control on the blade.

Sal talking about my knives :p
Sal Glesser wrote:Hi Hawk,

We made a slight design mod (deeper finger choil) that will require major tooling mods. We'll make a slab version first (probably a sprint) CF and ZDP to test out the mod, then we'll change the mold. Once that's completed, we can talk about colors.

I want one of those new prototype CF slab test sprint Stretches with ZDP!!!! Or (since I already have a ZDP Stretch), some more super blue would be nice if there's any left over and lying around :p

Is this choil mod going to result in a third generation Stretch?

From my understanding, possibly. If they are received well.
