As much as I like the bi-directional texturing that's already used on several models, based on pics of the prototype, it appears they went with something new. Since the molds take so much time and money to develop I'm not sure they'd change that aspect of the design at this point.

Afiak, this still from the Shot show vid is the only clue:

Still haven't seen anything on this- tried my best to get a clear photo but it is still a little blurry.
No idea if that's what we'll see or just what's on the proto... Agree that the "grid" pattern on the slippies is hard to beat, but that appears to be something new?

Nice enough, functional.

I have here on my desk a Dragonfly 2 and a Gen 1 Delica, and have to say the simple straight, level, fore and aft pattern of the Delica has much to offer aesthetically. I can't complain either about the Gen 1 Delica's eased ergonomic edges, as opposed to the hard shelf-like edges on the prototype Chap.

Still haven't figured out how to post pics here but Bento Box just posted a pic of the FRN Chaparral on their FB page saying it should be available later this month at $80.97. :D

^^^^ This makes me happy happy happy. Lightweight, discreet, cheap! If Bento has it for $80, im guessing this might come in around $65 everywhere else.

Nope, that is MAP. Not gonna find it anywhere cheaper until it hits the secondary market and given how amazing the Chap is you might be looking at a decade. :D

Yes that's the one! Thanks for the pic & I'll look into Imgur one of these days..
Held this at the Amsterdam meet and might be good competition for the small edc (now often a droppoint UKPK) is a Police 4 on it's way, this should make for a good companion. Will be my first Chaparral.

Even if it's around $80, that's <$15 more than a base Delica, and you get a really nice steel upgrade, slicier blade, thinner/lighter knife, 50/50 choil, and Taichung construction. That's a deal if I've ever seen one. I think you have to go to the ZDP-189 to get a comparable steel on a Delica outside of sprints, and the ZDP is $100. I don't usually go for duplicates of a design, but already having a CF Chaparral I'm going to end up with a Raffir Noble and an FRN; I just have this feeling...

I'm not sure I would call it a "deal". I would have expected it to come in around the Delica price. Sure hope that isn't MAP pricing.

Now, the competition becomes fierce between this one and my beloved K390 Urban

I like the looks of that new FRN texture. I wonder if we'll see this pattern get repeated on any other models in the future, or if it'll be a one time use for the Chaparral?
Going back to Caly.

How do you know that is MAP? Is MSRP listed somewhere?

Just looked up their FB page, nowhere does it say MAP pricing. BBS isn't selling this at MAP so I would expect it cheaper at other retailers.

that FRN pattern doesn't really do much for me.... I'd have been more excited for one with a BDT pattern like the existing LW models get.

either way, it's gonna be a great knife and make a lot of people who were not willing to spend $100+ for a Chap happy!

It's BDT, just a different shape for a different maker.

As much as I like FRN I think the pattern on the Delica and Dragonfly is too aggressive when clipped to some pockets over a long period with frequent use. Or, it could just be me and my habits and poor clothing choice. Anyway, I suspect the pattern on the Chaparral will be a kinder, gentler pattern. And, bringing a Chaparral’s cost into the reach of more people can be nothing but good in my book.

Okay, sign me up for this! The chappy is so awesome, I just need this (even if it is illegal to carry due to the lock). My original chappy is also one I regret selling.
