And who made the teeth? Not all serrations are created equal.

SE ayoob is a monster. Nice shallow serrations. One of the sharpest Serrated blades i own. Also the 3mm blade stock helps too. Wish spyderco would sprint that knife. I don't like edcing my original because I worry it will slip out of my pocket.

I'd love to own a plain edged Matriarch, (a waved one would be cool) I don't think the market is very big for them though.

You would have to ask mike!sal wrote:And who made the teeth? Not all serrations are created equal.

Got to handle a BT II today. It's even better than I imagined. CS hit this one out of the park.
Let's just say we'll let the blade mags reviews do the talking.

Re: Spyderco and Cold Steel "collaboration" of sorts.
Hey guys, no offense. I came back to apologize for acting out of line.
As mentioned, I stumbled upon this thread while researching the Black Talon II
End in the end, we all have a passion for knives. I run across the same thing in the car forums - The Corvette guys are defensive of the brand/make they drive and the Dodge Viper guys are equally as passionate about who has the best car, best bang for the buck, etc..
The import guys with the park bench wing and coffee can exhaust, well...they are just misguided. (They would be the "BUDK" guys)
No different with knives. Everyone is defensive regarding "their" brand.
So, sorry for being a PITA and I also wanted to personally thank Sal for sharing the blade design with CS. Without him, this knife as well as many other fine pieces of cutlery may have never seen the light of day and for that, I thank you.
I bought a Black Talon II as soon as it was available in early July and couldn't be happier and this knife would have never seen the light of day if not for Sal, so I want to thank him for his contributions to the industry and not just with the Civi/BT II
So, thanks Sal and thanks to the Spyderco community for putting up with my hysterics and best of luck to all of you.
I will continue to buy different brands of knives, CS and Spyderco included.
In case people think I'm full of it, I'm including a pic of my Civi and BTII

Thanks once again to all and good luck and apologies to those that were offended.

Hi PHP,
Thanx for coming back and apology accepted. It did make for some lively discussion.
The thing to remember, in my opinion, is that there are many knife companies, all competing for your dime. We each have our own way of doing things and that's what makes it a good competition. We differ in design philosophies, quality levels, source countries of origin, price, marketing methods, distribution methods and methods of communicating with our customers.
There is no absolute is the solutions to the "knife" question. Different strokes for different folks, decisions often based on knowledge and need. All open to discussion, and I must admit that the discussion did bring the question of a Civilian 2 design closer to the top of the list. I don't think I would change too much, just those issues that have come up over the past 30 years.

Re: Spyderco and Cold Steel "collaboration" of sorts.
Welcome to the boards, PHP87 :). Looks like I missed the wild ride of this thread, lol. Glad it all worked out in the end. What both those knives offer mechanically is almost an impossibility for "glancing/bouncing" strikes.
Perhaps an arbitrary note but lets all remember the important of training in all "defense" discussions. It's the unseen factor and the quality of varies as much as the tools we use. Comraderie, bruises and a little "bad intent" is nice to throw in.

Re: Spyderco and Cold Steel "collaboration" of sorts.
Thanks again Sal for all you've done for the industry and for making both the Civi and the BTII possible.
Good luck in your future ventures. I have great respect for Spyderco knives and the Byrd Hawkbill was my last Spyderco purchase but it won't be my last.
