I wanna know how people feel about the number of lionstreel designs being spyderized ? I really don't adhere to it, I know that one is not supposed to buy the whole Spyderco line-up, but I'm still having trouble reconciliating lionsteel's production and Spyderco's style of knifemaking. In my eyes, they don't match much
It's not my cup of tea, the Spymyto I bought last year only emphasized that. Luckily there are a lot of other cool new knives in this release 🥳
how I feel, as requested:
I loved the spymyto bought one, then bought a lionsteel myto. I like drop points... I like lionsteel. the spydie bugging out hole is not sightly, but does work better than the flipper. the spydie clip is better. the micarta makes it lighter. but more titanium is cool. m398 vs m390 both cool. lionsteel "finishes" their knives beautifully. amazing craftsmanship. works of art, I'd rather not use on the field.

my daily use: salt native chief. tactile rockwall in magnacut, or quiet carry drift (vanax)

Not sure what you'd need to adhere to. Are you trying to say you just don't like the lionsteel collabs visually? It's probably just the application of using a Spyderhole as an opening method as opposed to a stud... Functionally would be all around excellent, and familiar for those of us who are used to them.
It's not really about the opening hole, more about the conception. These designs haven't been "made to be Spydercos". My issue is that they just feel like a Spydiehole has been slapped on them, and that's it.
When I look at previous collaborations, it feels like the maker/designer especially made a knife for Spyderco, or has a knife design philosophy close to Spydercos. For me, most of lionSTEEL designs take a shot a knifemaking from a totally different angle.

I don't know if I'm saying stuff that is even understandable. It's not a dig at lionSTEEL designs, I actually like the designs even if I have to admit that I never like their geometry.

I saw a youtube video on the reveal where Eric Glazer discusses the spymyto and you can tell he really loves lionsteel knives and craftsmanship... so maybe its simply b/c he likes them... you can do that when you're the boss... right? :thinking ;) just throwing it out there

Oh of course, they can even make a duck knife, I'm just used to the actual spyderco designs from sal and eric or their usual collaborations, which are superior in my opinion.

One is not supposed to buy the whole catalog. Just half of it 😀
:respect In the collection :respect : Lots of different steels, in lots of different (and same) Spydercos.

There's a swedge, it's just the lighting in that picture.
