Hey Aicolaimen,

Thanx for the comment. It really does show the difficulty in trying to get input and feedback without giving too much information to the "competitors" so they know know what we're doing.

Hi Sal. Can a forum moderator perhaps help make things more secret again?
So sorry this happend Eric and Wouter were very clear about the rules especialy because there was allot of questions about the use of smartphones for the feedback link.
I really hope this will not damage the Amsterdam meet for the future as i have bin going for many years now and its one of my favorite days of the year.

The Amsterdam Meet this year was a blast!

It is very unfortunate to see a person share that much details about the shown concept models and production samples.

I really hope that this will not have a negative effect for future meetings since they are always so great and wonderful moments with other passionate people.

I did not attend the meeting and I don´t know which rules and guidelines where announced.

But just for me personally waiting for Wouters picture thread and watching how one exciting new model or variant after another gets revealed in the way he does that with supernice photos and text is how it "should be" and I actually feel a bit robbed of that experience by the mundane list we got now. :neutral

I very much hope Wouter still is motivated and willing to do his thing anyway!
Top three going by pocket-time (update April 25):

- Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Endela SE (K390)

It seems the best way to never let the cat out of the bag, is indeed, to never let the cat out of the bag, nor even dare to open it.

I for one am not so distraught by Senate's postings, and do not see the overall destructiveness in what was posted, but I do understand the dissappointed sentiment shared by those because of such information being prematurely leaked.

Trust risks betrayal. You can never be so certain, but I doubt that Spyderco would stick their neck out so far to risk beheading at such meet-ups if they were indeed exposing so much to put their business at risk of losing out to their competitors. I see this as mostly a no harm situation, but there certainly is a bit of foulness at play here.

Contrary to the dreary tide of this thread, I'm now very excited to see Wouter's "soft reveals" of the models he so chooses (or is allowed) to share, after seeing Senate's list of models shown at the meet. Looks like an exciting start to the year, if these are indeed intended for release within the next year.

@sal I am sure many companies deal with this issue, how to get constructive feedback on prototype designs without leaking completive information to competitors or getting your customer base excited about a product that may never be produced.

It might be worth having people sign an NDA, I mean Willy Wanka did it, and other companies do follow this model with reasonable success. It is not there just to punish but more to reinforce that the information is privileged. I am sure it is not easy being a Spyderco fan, seeing new cool products and not telling anyone about them. An NDA would just help reinforce the concept as the last thing a fan is thinks about is giving away proprietary information.

Good luck, if running a company was easy, I guess everyone would be doing it.

I usually don't even speak about the Meet, except about meeting people there, and how nice it was. Only comment I allow myself is on knives that have been discussed on the forum or in official medias before hand. Still edited it just in case
:respect In the collection :respect : Lots of different steels, in lots of different (and same) Spydercos.

For what it's worth we knife knuts have historically had extremely short attention span so we're likely to forget all of this shortly after the next shiny exciting thing comes along 😉

Ahah, true ! I think that what I said was perfectly fine since it said not much about one model that has been announced and has his dedicated thread, but I'm not the kind of guy to bite the hand that feeds me :smlling-eyes .

Even if it was only my second time, being able to see/meet fellow spyderco fans from all over the globe, some I've been talking with for years, others I've never heard of, is something very special.

And having Eric showing us stuff in person is pretty darn cool, especially when you come from rural France and don't often get randomly teleported to Golden, Colorado :winking-tongue :bug-red-white

To be fair I guess I did ask for it, but I do recall people openly talking about new models in the past or I wouldn't have asked, I do know about the hush hush stuff too. Maybe in the past it was talking about models that Wouter was going to reveal in pics anyway? I'm not sure but I apologize for asking, I probably instigated all this.

I am sure it's okay to ask, I know I asked if the BBB collaboration made an appearance, but the lucky people who attend know better than us what and if any information they can share. It's in part why I recommended a NDA, just to make it clear to everyone who goes what can and can't be spoken about.

Does Spyderco do something like this in the US? Is it an invitation only thing?

I don't think you need to apologize for anything. We have definitely had people openly talking about what was shown at this event in the past. Some attendees would even share the notes they took at the event.

Also, if we're going to talk about spoilers - that list was nothing! We are about to get a Reveal catalog with a new grey titanium Tenacious that retailers are already selling! I'm almost willing to guarantee Wouter will be showing off those new Tenacious in his photos and yet some customers already own them before it's even officially revealed by Spyderco.

None the less, I do not believe anything shared or asked in this thread was done so with ill intent. We're all just excited about Spyderco. :respect :bug-red

One thing I can reveal for SURE : I can't wait to see our guys pictures in the new calendar ! :open-grin

I haven't even bought a 2025 calendar for that very reason. I've been remembering my appointments by myself, like a big boy, for 2 months :rofl

I’m sorry if my post has caused a stir, i didn’t think posting a few infos was forbidden as it was never clearly written (contrary to taking no pictures), I would have respected the rules.

Hi William,

I don't think we need contracts or NDA's. It would not be in the Spyderco Spirit. I believe in trust. We'll be fine now and in the future.

We've thought about a US meet. The logistics are challenging, but well keep it in mind. I would enjoy attending such an event.
