I wonder if I am too early begging for a Military2 lefty ? ;) ;)

Call me crazy but I think it was a mistake not going with an ambidextrous lock design for the Military 2, but I'm certain the compression lock version will still sell like crazy. I'm a bit let down that they haven't pursued the Power Lock more.
I like the power lock too . I understand their decision but wish it had been a bit more innovative . MG2

I guess based on the old patent diagrams of the Power Lock, many of us (wrongly) assumed for years that the Military 2 was destined to have that lock so I guess I let myself down.
Heard the powerlock has a self close like the ball lock too, which would make it more interesting to me.

When it comes to comp lock / liner lock they're even in my eyes. Both easy to use but lack a self close, which I look for in folders. As long as the detent is stiff either works well for me. Haven't had my Yojumbo open in my pocket or waist band and I've carried it IWB on some runs to specifically test the closing bias on a larger comp lock knife.

That's why I'm more interested in the other changes, like clip positioning and choil size.
May you find peace in this life and the next.

I’ve been tempted to attend one of these trade shows, like SHOT Show or Blade Show, just so I can check out that prototype case myself! :grin-squint
If you get the chance, it is worth it just for the prototype case. I saw that Native Chief LW at the blade show in Atlanta last year and fell in love. Some other interesting things get thrown in too.

I've come to dislike the lock cutout area of compression locks during hard use, and that's at least one thing I don't have to worry about with the liner lock or a back lock. I want to be able to really bear down on a knife for however long I need to without worrying about hot spots and I can't really do that with a compression lock. It doesn't stop me from buying, but for the sake of discussion I'll always throw it out there. I like for my locks to "disappear" once the knife is open, I don't want to be concerned about them in any sort of way but the CL gives me a constant reminder that it's there when I'm using them hard. Maybe someday the button version will solve this issue for me.

Funny how that is. For me the comp lock cutout doesn't interfere with my grip. My thumb goes forward of them when I'm resting it on the spine, and for really hard cuts my thumb is wrapped around the handle and the cutout gives me no hot spots.

But I think my liner lock models would be more comfortable without the large cutout for the lock release.

Might get to put that theory to test when the Millie 2 comes out and I can compare it side by side to the original.

it's never been an issue for me either, but i don't do a lot of hard cutting with folding knives anyway. that's also why i can not care for the stability of spyderco backlocks, but am still perfectly fine with a linerless pacific salt.

I saw that Wharncliffe Lil Native and all I could think was, when will we see the Hawkbill Lil Native?

The second thing I thought was the Wharncliffe looks rad and I want one.

Something about seeing the way the lil native looked in Erics grip actually made it appealing to me. The lack of a thumb ramp would go a long way towards making it ergonomic for me. Usually on small knives the thumb ramp is what creates grip issues in my hands. If I ever have a need for a tiny knife in the future I'll try one of them out.

Actually the first thing that went into my mind when I saw the curve of the wharncliffe's spine was that it reminded me of a hawk than a wharnie.

The rampless design is one of the many factors that made me fall in love with the Lil' Native design! :beaming-face

It's the one thing that made me lose interest in the Dfly2 design and replace it with LNs. The Dfly's arrowhead-like blade looks rad but the thumb ramp creates some serious issues when I use it, especially full choil.

That's one of the reasons the Chief has pretty much replaced the Police for me.

Which is funny, because the first time I handled the two back to back I liked the Chief ergos, but preferred the Police opening action with the more exposed hole.

After getting used to the Chief, I have no issues opening and closing it.
May you find peace in this life and the next.

He did? I'll have to re-watch the vid...
I had to go back and check it out too, snagged a screenshot. The comparison takes place at the 13:23 mark.

I actually placed my thumb in front of the screen with one eye closed to picture a hawkbill version, so this made me laugh!

Ooooh, I thought these were going to be S30V. I'm definitely picking one up now. I really like BD1N, I use it at work all the time in the form of a Z Cut. I've been wanting to try it in a pocket knife form. Should help keep the cost around the $100-120 ball park too!
I think I share that enthusiasm for BD1N, but I’m also pretty sure Eric said these weren’t necessarily gonna use the steel, they’re just samples meant for the show. Specifically, he says that dot or star after the steel label indicates it’s not final or something.
Probably s30v in the end.

Maybe I misheard, though.

I'd rather it be BD1N too. S30V is great and all, but BD1N seems so much better in the cost to performance ratio.

The Chief LW looks pretty sweet. I especially liked the comp shot next to the Stretch XL that Eric gave us in the Knife Center vid. Gonna make it a tough choice as to which one to get first. These are both knives that I may just wait on for additional colors and steels. Also hoping we'll see some creative new translucent colors in the screw-construction Manix 2 LW.

One I won't wait on is that Lil Native LW. I have a feeling that I'm going to pick up most flavors it comes in (Wharnie anyone?). Pretty much what I've done with my Dragonflies and Enduras...
G10 in a rainbow of colors does (almost) nothing for me. Translucent FRCP though? It makes me feel like a kid again collecting holographic Pokemon cards and special edition Transformer repaints. I have no excuses or justifications. It's just cool.

The Military 2 is most likely in the prototype case that Spyderco displays at trade shows like this. They do not allow pictures of the prototype case, so we will probably not see the Military 2 during this SHOT Show.
Sal said the other day that he was walking around with an SPY27 Military in his pocket. I wonder if it was the Mil2?

Beautiful! You nailed it. Those ads/pics encapsulate the exact vibe. It probably only works for people in a certain age range, but it embodies so much. I hate to say it's just nostalgia. The translucent plastic era kinda represents the democratization of technology. Cameras, computers, consoles, cell phones, etc. All became accessible consumer goods rather than hobbyist commodities. As a kid/ young adult it was so exciting for those things to become obtainable. The triumph of cheap and fun over expensive and obscure? Beyond just fun, I guess they feel optimistic? Mostly just fun, though.
