Taking an active role in your business including the downline practices of your associates and how it ultimately reflects on you and your business is critical. A lot of companies have MSRP and MAP. No one selling their knives can advertise a price below MAP. A similar policy to MAP could be used to prevent bundling. I assume many caveats exist and this one would be in my opinion a positive. This isn't the only forum where the overwhelming sentiment on this bundle is negative. As a business owner myself, I wouldn't want my clients only doing business with one of my associates on gimmicks like exclusives and swearing them off otherwise to the point of bad mouthing them in public. Once the gimmicks end the business in all likelihood fails. The bad publicity simply wouldn't be worth it to me.

I agree that what BBS is doing is bad buisness practice. I guess it comes down to how much Spyderco wants to manage the selling of their knives through independent buisnesses.

Well, I'd say you can take your time deciding if you want the Elmax P2, they'll probably be there awhile. :D

I suspect eventually they will be unbundled, but expect the price to be well over $200 when that happens.

I'd be inclined to buy a Blue Millie instead of the bundle, and even a Blue Millie second over an expensive Elmax P2.

All that aside, long term you might still make money off an Elmax investment. The ECB has cut the interest rate on its deposit facility to minus 1/10 of one percent, from an implied rate of zero. Stocks rose on that news this week. People who have money in a bank may be scrambling to invest in other things soon.

I would get an Elmax Para for $200. I wouldn't get an Elmax Para for $200 if they also push me into a bad deal on the Lil Matriarch, even though I want one.

Looks like our ranting and raving has worked. BBS is selling the PM2 on it's own now. More likely it had to do with lack of sales.
Most recently acquired: Military 2, Paramilitary 2 Tanto x2, YoJUMBO, Swayback, Siren, DLC Yojimbo 2, Native Chief, Shaman S90V, Para 3 LW, Ikuchi, UKPK, Smock, SUBVERT, Amalgam, Para 3 CTS-XHP, Kapara, Paramilitary 2 M390
Grail Paramilitary 2 M390 X 2! ACHIEVED!!

WOW, this is so nice of him. Few more years of rant and he will start to pay for shipping insurance.

I got an e-mail asking if I wanted to only order the PM2 and have $99.95 credited to my paypal. I'm very grateful to BBS for this decision.

If we are going to be quick to criticize, we should also be quick to praise. That's great news.

I just put my money where my mouth is and ordered a pair. I have at least two of all of the other sprints so at MSRP there is a certain amount of momentum to keep the sets complete. I'd prefer Knifeworks pricing but I can live with MSRP. Goodness knows I've bought enough knives direct from Spyderco at MSRP...

Wow, that's an interesting turn of events. Props to BBS for a good decision.

I put one in the shopping cart and calculated tax and shipping. I'm in California and the boost was pretty brutal. Brought it up to about $230 and we still hadn't gotten to insurance issues. Just a little past my tipping point for a Foliage Green knife. There's a lot of competition out there.

Agreed. MSRP doesn't bother me one bit for an exclusive that they fronted all the money for. I'm glad they did it and I'm sure I'll love it just like my blue M390. :spyder:

What's the hardness on this Elmax? Similar to that of the mule?

Is this PM2 worth the $200 price tag when compared to the PM2 with cts-204p at $150 ??? :) Is it worth it price wise based on other PM2 with different steels?

Elmax, treated properly, is an awesome steel, but production companies aren't taking it to a high hardness. It will likely be similar in performance to a stock PM2 with S30V. The collectible nature of these exclusives and short run PM2s make them valuable to some, but to actual users...you may be better off with one of the other models. The cost for the steel alone is higher for the M390 and 204P versions. I'm really curious how Spyderco's Elmax performs, have to think over whether I'm $200 curious or not. Lastly, I would say that as a knife..a PM2 is not a bad $200 option in any of the steels they've done. We are used to thinking of it as a $100 knife but sold by Emerson, it would not be.

As an everyday user, when you find one in stock at a normal discount (~ $105ish), the regular production S30V version is an awesome performer and a great value. :spyder:

I love foliage green but not sure if this elmax version is worth the $212. That is a big markup for a color I like. Sure would be nice to carry it with the g10 foliage green dragonfly as a combo. I like to carry two knives. One large and one small.

Yup, it sure is a great combo!! Guess I'll need a new foliage green Dragonfly to go along with this Elmax PM2. Cheers, Radioactive :)
