Perfection and yet another Spydero "Family" that I'll have to start collecting.

All I ask however is that the black clip remains across the family. I love how most of the wire clips ride low and discrete but dislike this being wrecked by a shiny reflective silver wire clip.

My Sage 2, 3, Caly 3 and UKPK all being victims of this fate.

They just stand out too much when wearing dress pants.
Too many Spydies to list!

Looking at the pix, I would like the Chaparral w/ wharncliffe/Org G10, and compressed lock. :D
The Deacon wrote:Only Urban I have is a wharncliffe, but here it is. Chaparral handle gains some grip area, compared to the Urban's, by moving more of the choil onto the blade.

Thanks, Sal.

You just made the decision to pick up a Chaparral (or two, ;) ) even easier.

Well, I'm definitely going to be getting one of these.

I just got an Urban and have been thinking "If I could get a locking Urban, I'd be set."

This knife strikes me as being distinctive, elegant and well-balanced. This will have to be my first CF knife! If it's make in the same factory as my Zulu, it's guaranteed to be of high quality and value.

Thanks Sal and company for finding yet another niche I must fill! :D

Ira

I wanted a caly 3 because of the midlock but I also wanted the sage because of its textured carbon fiber. So the Chaparral is the perfect choice for me. A fusion of 2 great knives.

There are a number of dealers that have a formal pre-order system. KnifeCenter, Cutlery Shoppe, KnifeWorks, and Howes Knife Shop come to mind, but I'm sure there are others as well. I have a hunch that most dealers who do not advertise pre-orders would probably be willing to reserve a knife for a regular customer. To me, placing a pre-order for a Sprint Run knife makes sense, but doing so for a regular production model like the Chaparral seems unnecessary.

When do you think the Chaparral will be made without the carbon fiber? That really drives up the price from what I have seen and heard.

No idea, and I'm totally clueless as to when a less expensive scale material will be used. I'm pretty sure the CF version will be the first one out, and hopefully before June, but am not even certain of that. From what I understand, the next two versions due out will have titanium handles, one plain, one with some sort of design. If the UKPK is any indicator, those should be considerably more expensive than the CF. One dealer that's taking pre-orders for the Ti UKPK has it priced about $45 higher than the CF version. On the other hand, the price difference between G-10 and CF is relatively minor. Same with the difference between micarta and CF. Aluminum or all stainless might be cheaper, but it's hard to say.

With three iterations of premium scale materials apparently in the works, it seems unlikely they will get around to a G-10 or FRN scale anytime soon.

Honestly, imo for this sort of gentleman's knife I feel like FRN or the regular textured G10 would almost ruin the look of the knife.

Unless the Chaparral proves to be a really big hit, FRN is probably off the table for the usual reason. I think polished G-10 or micarta would look great, if it could be crowned a bit. Flat slabs of either are nowhere near as attractive. If they can do crowned, one of the stabilized plywood products like Dymondwood might be another reasonable cost option.
