I keep telling myself I should carry my rex chief this month, but I can't stop reaching for this particular Pacific Salt.

Image
Haha, I would probably be carrying a Chief anyway. Hard to get one out of my hands. I’m sure I’ll be ready to change it up by the end of the month though. I only hope the lightweight version is offered in LC200N or Magnacut.

Yup, nothing beats a Salt-series model for rainy days.

Was going to switch it up today, but after a couple passes on the browns last night for a quick touchup...it was too sticky sharp to leave at home, back in the pocket you go. 4V is great stuff!

Everything considered, this is a favorite knife in my entire collection. Has been for some time.

It’s made by TealeDesigns on Etsy.com, I found them on instagram. Just looking on their site, the prybars like mine seem to be out of stock. I’ve been quite happy with it so far 👍

Did the same with my EDC this morning. I put an edge on it with a 1,000 grit suehiro cerax stone and rocked that for a few weeks. Noticed it starting to dull a bit, so I touched it up with brown rods in the 15 degree slots. Maybe 5 passes per side. Screaming sharp now.

Doing some casual comparisons with different higher polish stones to see which gives the best edge retention. medium rods vs fine rods vs 1,000 grit cerax vs 5,000 grit shapton vs whichever stone I order next. Maybe a DMT EEF.

Image

Haven't missed my usual coarse edge as much as I expected. I figured edge retention would be a lot worse than the reality has been. I forgot how even polished up to ultrafine, H1 PE can cut a good amount of cardboard before it needs touched up.

I've been varying my finishes in the 400-800 grit range lately. Feels like my sweet spot, with a QUICK touch up every couple days. I really find those finishes to be so aggressive, yet also fairly smooth in going through most materials. 200-300 is fun, but I tend to snag just a bit. Could be my apex though? For the warehouse, I won't touch my UF stones.

4 years ago or so I had the BBS Para 3/M390 and took it to UF stones all the time...until it slipped right off the plastic strapping into the concerte barrier on the dock and jacked up the edge pretty bad.
