Slicker than denim and canvas, my guess is more resin between larger gaps in the burlap weave. Have a couple of mules with it and they're pretty slick too. May hit one of them with some 80 grit and see if improves.

We're in a heat wave and I thought I'd be outside at work during the heat, but in a somewhat fortunate turn I'm stuck inside. So, I'm back to carrying a knife with a proper blade steel (said with apologies to all the other great steels out there!).

It’s pretty fantastic. Wife had field work last two weeks, which means breaking down 3 cans worth of recycling to fit into one can. Leafjumper handled it all with aplomb. Would be even meaner in SE.
