Then I relube the pivot with Nano oil, and they work great! Sometimes I take the blade completely off, which is a snap with the Caly. That's what I do at least... Cheers, Paul
Thanks for the info!

Shouldn't it be called the Saly 3.5 then? Wait a minute.... that didnt sound right. :D I been trying to get a 3.5 in a trade for a while now but after this thread, I will just buy one. The Caly 3 wasnt for me so hopefully the 3.5 will work.

I love good-looking knives and IMHO Caly3 looks better that Caly3.5. Not much, but still better for my taste. I own both. I carry 3.5 almost every day and I carry Caly3 only, when I go out of state and not sure about state law, if it allows 3.5. An extra 1/2" blade is nice.

My top choices Natives5, Calys, C83 Persian

While the 3.5 surprisingly feels very close in size to the 3 (less than the extra blade length would lead you to expect), I agree with Roman that from a perspective of pure form and proportions the 3 is a much more attractive knife. :spyder:

I like to see a blade ratio in the 1:1 ballpark but I don't mind sacrificing a little blade length in service of good ergonomics. To me the 50/50 choil on knives like the Caly 3/3.5, PM2 and N5 is part of what makes these knives standout performers.

It's so obvious ! Caly3 is more balanced and more versatile for EDC.I love Caly 3.5 but I adore Caly 3.Sal was visited by gods when he designed Caly 3.
But pleeeeease Sal, bring back Caly jr. ! At least a 600 sprint.

What's the consensus of the Caly 3 vs. the 3.5? A personal preference only, I guess. Other than blade length, does one do/have something the other does not?

Pretty much personal preference, or legal necessity.

I loved my 3.5, and to me the best thing was the almost freakishly large blade in such a small package.

This is true. Every time I pick up the 3.5 I think: "how did they get all that blade into this handle set?" :)

I love both the 3 & 3.5 however I often carry the 3 over it's larger sibling. I feel that the 3" has more belly.

I find my hand fits nicer on the 3.5, and I think it looks better than the 3 proportionally, though I suspect I'm one of few who thinks so.

Nope, 3.5 all day! So sleek, leggy...just all around sexy. Like having my own supermodel.

Ok, this is too much Caly 3.5 love. ;)
I would like it better if it was a little lighter in the butt end.
The steel liners plus the solid steel spring holder make it entirely too heavy in the back, it throws me off :D .

Perhaps a Caly Jr. could cure your situation? :D

Very cool to hear from Sal on this thread (wasn't my expectation when starting the thread). I want to thank you for making some great knives Sir....please keep it up!

I asked the question initially because I was seriously considering the Caly 3.5 as my first higher-end knife purchase and wanted to hear some feedback on some of the negatives I've heard about the knife. I had to make this purchase count (baby #2 on way), so I did a ton of research and read many of the threads on here containing some great info. Thanks to all the posters for taking the time to reply.

Just as an update, I was all ready to buy the Caly 3.5 when I checked and saw that a reputable retailer had the black on black PM2 available. Went that route and just got it today. I hate to say it, but I really regret not getting the Caly 3.5. I hope that changes, but first impressions are that I made the wrong choice.

It'll be okay. There is no way to go wrong with the PM2.
