My understanding is that knife comes in a 4 inch version. Is this true? I'd really like one with a 4 inch blade but can never find one. Who has them?
That's the biggest version, it's 3.6".

Not being 4" is what stopped me from getting one until recently. It has almost the exact same sharpened length as my XM24 though, and has never felt any less capable but I do still wish it was 4".

Here's a comparison to a Millie and XM24:

I like the SRK, and it is on my short list.
I'm assuming you'll want the 3V version instead of SK5. Keep an eye out at Midway. They sell them as low as $80 there a few times a year, which is a crazy good value. Regular price isn't bad either, $100.

https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1025870355?pid=192245

Mine is a tank. Got a back-up in olive green too. I'll get a third someday, it's a very good price for an extremely good knife.

The SK5 version is nice too, but I prefer them stripped like the 3V, and I prefer the flat saber ground 3V grind too. The SK5 is hollow saber ground, which can slice a little better, but it has less mass so it doesn't baton, chop, pry etc. as well. Considering the SRK isn't designed as a pure slicer, I think the beefier flat saber grind suits it better.

You'd also appreciate the sharper swedge on the 3V.

That said if anyone reading wants to try an SRK as cheap as possible, CKW has the FDE for under $30. https://www.chicagoknifeworks.com/cold- ... ark-earth/ Absolute steal at that price.
$100 is a great price too. I'll pick one of them up.

carrying some of the same knives you would have caught me carrying decades ago, before I joined the forum

Who knew that Native Chief LW would spark such a change in my knife tastes.

After sending it back I looked for different less expensive knives to try out with the refund.

That led me to carrying Buck 110's and Opinels again. The Swisstech Listig I bought and returned brought me back to Vic Classics.

Now I'm sitting here browsing Opinels, Douk Douks, Mercators, Cudemans, etc.

I'm enjoying these more traditional offerings so much compared to chasing down tactical designs.

I keep my Buck 110 on my work bench and still use out of fond memories of my Dad who gifted the two dot many years ago . I bought the Opinel years ago out of curiosity and what a great simple design, and gifted it to a young man I worked with just starting to getting into knives . I wanted him to understand that the rice tag means little at the end of using a knife . He is still collecting and everytime I visit where I last worked before retiring he shows me what he has in pocket . Makes me smile , Dan

they look great in those colors too, don't they? I love the contouring on the Recon 1 handle. So much more comfortable than more squared off handles.

That's an awesome story. I've made a habit of gifting byrds, value spydercos, SAKs, and 110's over the years. Everyone is always thrilled to have a quality knife.

Hey, that’s the same one!!! I found mine at work in the operator’s office and no one claimed it. I took it home and it languished in my sock drawer until I watched Sal’s video and learned how to sharpen it!!!

Anyone who owns one of these knives knows how truly thin it really is. It can literally be hidden in the seam of a garment; particularly inside the seam of a coat or jacket.

Yeah OD green/black is my favorite color combo and I like these for camping - they’re inexpensive and tough as nails…if I’m remembering correctly I think the SRK-C was $25 and the Recon 1 was $99 because someone here on the the forum told me about a sale 😉 👊…I put them through the ringer our first trip as you can tell by the effects of batoning on the SRK-C 👍

They're both really good performers for the $$. Both the SK5 and S35VN seem to have a really good heat treat. Each take a great edge for me and hold it well against rougher use. Haven't managed to find any rust on my Recon 1's either, so it sees a lot of summer carry. As much as I like the 3V versions of the SRK/SRKC I love the contrast between green and black as well.

Nice Shannon! One of those is on the top of my list for Blade Show next year. Interested to hear what you think about it.

We hit our first cool weather this week, and fall layers mean that fixed blades are back in the rotation for me.

Image

I carry the SPK shark in a kydex taco with a Spyderco G-Clip. Last night I decided to change it from a scout carry to a high-ride hip carry and I’m liking it so far. In my neck of the woods fixed blades aren’t taken kindly, so concealed carry is best.

I also find the Sebenza carries better in a heavier pant. Fall means the double knees come out, so the Sebenza is back in rotation too.

Touched them both up on the paddle strop last night, along with a few of my other favorite fall EDCs. I really like this “middle of the road” steel like Cruwear. Holds a good edge, but still sharpens up quick enough as long as the edge is nice and thin.

I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

It’s like a medium sebenza flipper… exactly what you would expect that to be in your head. I haven’t tried mine on the washers yet, but I did buy them with it, cuz why not?
