The Lil' Matriarch, not so little!

I've had my Lil' Matriarch about 2 weeks now, and it's my first SpyderEdge!

I already knew I liked the Reverse "S" because of my Dodo's, but add the serrations and the size of the blade, and you've got one "big" knife. It did a great job on some boxes last week, and the tip can do some delicate work. Such as cutting labels off said boxes. This evening, I was doing some yard clean up, and it really shined doing some light pruning. I'm not sure what the sapling trees were, but the Lil' Matriarch just zipped right through the "trunks" if they were less than about 3/8 to 1/2 inch diameter. A few were slightly bigger, and it took a little sawing, but it did a great job with that also. I imagine this was the type of cutting it was designed for, a quick pull cut, and the yard looks better in my case. I'd hate to be on the receiving end of one of these. Based on the lineage of this knife, Civilian and Matriarch, I'm not surprised.

The Matriarch 2 is my first SpyderEdge also (and first reverse s), and it's made quick work of boxes and paper. I hope they add a wave to the Lil Matriarch soon.

I've handled a Civilian a few times, and honestly that's the only knife I've held in my hand that I actually felt a little uncomfortable holding. I mean, I've been around knives my entire life, I've played with everything you can think of from actual real forged functional swords to machetes and everything in between, but the Civilian is just down right lethal feeling in hand. That knife clearly portrays one single purpose, and it sure as **** isn't breaking down cardboard boxes lol.

I did just get a chance to handle the Matriarch 2, and while it's not near as scary as the Civilian, I passed on buying one for similar reasons. A knife like that to me is just calling out for an arrest and some jail time. Even if you live somewhere that doesn't have any blade length laws, I don't think many police officers would feel comfortable with someone walking around with a knife that looks like either of those do.

I too bought a Lil Matriach as a daily use knife. I'm sure it would excel in other ways but between the serrations and tip it's just wonderfully useful. As you said, each draw cut does a ton of work. The Delica has always been an "ok" knife to me while I understand others adore it. This latest deviation adds enough character to be a stand-out champ in my collection.

I probably won't carry it in public much, because of the "aggressive" perception. I really love my "little big knives", and they don't scare anyone. Plus I don't want my Dodos to get lonely. So for now, it's mostly around the house use. But it is my go to knife at home! Yes, the Delica for me has been a good knife, but I never really felt a great connection with it.

Yeah I was pretty excited about it when it was announced but I still haven't handled one. Even though the Lil is a lot less aggressive than the Matriarch or Civilian, it's still probably chainsaw massacre to non knife people.

It's definitely one that having a Ladybug in the pocket as well is handy. That said, I pulled out my Lava and my inlaws gasped. :rolleyes:

the Lil' Mat is not in the same category to me as the Civi or Mat 2. Both of those look like a chainsaw and a folder had a lovechild. The Lil' Mat looks a **** of a lot more utility looking. Of course I am looking at this through spydie colored glasses...
