old style diamond sleeves for sharpmaker

#1

Post by Jeff/1911 »

Hi,

My local shop has a set of these in stock, but not the new style ones. Are the original sleeves any good?

Are they for a 203?

I'd bet they were good but are they the same
size as the sleeves for the 204 need to be?

I'm thinking the size of the stones has changed.

CK,

Hey, good question. I didn't realize that the 204 uses different sized stones from the 203.

Thanks, I'll look into this.

I have the old style sleeves and they work just as well on my 204 as they did on the 203. If it were me though I'd hold out for the new diamond rods, you'll get more diamond surface area. There has been talk that the old ones had problems with the diamond dust wearing off the sleeve. I haven't had any problems with mine though.

Jeff -

I don't know about the older diamond stones, but I just got a new set from GlassHartt, and they are great. They are also pricey, so I think if those old stones are reaslonably priced I would jump on them

I have a set that I couldn't get over a set of newer rods. Then I picked up an older Sharpmaker that was still NIB and the ds fit with no problem. I've had mine for a while now, several years at least and they do an excellent job of cutting a new edge on some really dull knives, but don't really get used very much as I try to keep all my knives sharp enough to only have to hit the white stones on occassion.
