Street Beat Sprint - Which Steel?

#1

Post by vivi »

In the last poll tool steel was the overwhelming favorite. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=88988

This poll will help determine which steel is the most popular choice.

The poll allows for two choices, so pick one steel and one coating option please

I tried to stick to japanese steels and steels I know Spyderco has used on japanese models before.

There is no guarantee every steel on my list is a possibility, but I do know Sal has stated the maker can work with K390. Off the top of my head I can't think of a japanese spydie that had 4V, M4 or 52100.
May you find peace in this life and the next.

M4 would be my choice. But, I wouldn't turn down K390.

Uncoated.

Voted 52100/coated but I'd be happy with any of these steels coated or not.

Appreciate the leg work on this. Hoping for a return of that model since I snoozed on getting one of the last Micarta ones here in Canada. I would really like M4 but voted HAP40 (which I like too) given where it will be made.

Thanks for leading this charge, Vivi! I love the Street Beat almost as much as you do, so I'm glad to see it has a champion. I voted for K390 and Uncoated, but honestly I'd have taken any of these steels - least favorite being SG2.

In for anything carbon steel. I would love if the handles were any color other than black personally.

I voted Hap40 no coating, but like others, any of the steels work for me!

Pretty much this. Anything on this list anyway. Voted cruwear/uncoated.

cruwear because i want a good balance for a tool steel and coated because i want it to be more corrosion resistant.
keep your knife sharp and your focus sharper.

I voted for a coated blade>> I also voted to use CPM 4V. I've heard a lot of very good testimonies of 4V being used in fixed blades and I would love to try a STREETBEAT model with 4V. Not sure if it would be a good choice if they did one in full Spyderedge but for that matter they could do a full SE version in VG-10 and I would be good with it. But for sure 4V in a plain edged blade would be something of much interest to me.

HAP40 and Superblue. Reason being they are domestic steels and available to the maker in Japan. Cruwear or coated 4V and 52100 would be nice but I think that muddies the water.
