Does anyone know how to cut brown Sharpmaker rods cleanly?
Hi all, I’ve had an idea rolling around in my head for ages about bonding a section of Sharpmaker rod to a coffee (or in my case - Tea) mug with angled sides. It’s been on the back burner until recently when I discovered a beautiful large mug in Zurich with tapered ...

Lazy Man breaks down and flattens stones: What about the Sharpmaker?
... more proactive on stone maintenance. Any coarse surface will become smoother if you keep rubbing on it. Think about rock and glaciers. Think about Sharpmaker rods and knife blades. It's inevitable that the rods will become smoother over time. I've never heard of anyone resurfacing their Sharpmaker ...

A Tip For Cleaning Sharpmaker Stones
For those of you who haven’t found out, Mr. Clean Magic Erasers work fantastic for cleaning Sharpmaker stones. I had been using Barkeeper’s Friend, but these are cheap, and way easier and more convenient. Just take a piece wet it a little, then go to town and throw it ...

Sharpmaker and scissors
I noticed my kitchen scissors does not cut cling film anymore. Remembering the side slot of the Sharpmaker is made for scissors so I gave it a try. With the brown and fine rods. But a little improvement but not much. Then a few strokes on the diamonds and it cut through ...

What are the highest edge retention steels that can still be easily/quickly sharpened on the brown sharpmaker stones?
Ive been favoring ease of sharpen ability recently and have been using a lot of vg10. But I’ve been sharpening s30v on the sharpmaker brown rods and was surprised at how easy it was to get back to shaving sharp. So it’s made me think, what are the highest edge retention steels that ...

Sharpmaker question
For those who have the additional Ultra Fine Stone triangle, did you purchase 2 or do you use one and flip it to hone blades? I guess I’m asking is it worth getting two or can you make do with one? Can you make do without it, or was it a worthy purchase that makes the blade that much sharper? Thanks

How do I use the sharpmaker on a convex edge?
I'm trying to use the sharpmaker for a CRK Sebenza that has their convex edge. Admittedly I don't know much about sharpening and just use the sharpmaker on all my pocket knives at 40 degrees then strop. It works well with my Spydercos, ...

vg-10 on the sharpmaker, recomendations?
Curious what most folks do. My most used spyderco is the wharncliff dragonfly. Needs sharpening every week or two. I tend to just do 15 dps brown rods. vg-10 seems to do pretty well at that angle with that coarseness. I'm curious what other of y'all's progressions are. Do you use the white rods? Do ...

Question about Tri-Angle Sharpmaker and Wusthof knives
... (https://www.wusthof.com/support/faq), their sharpening angle is 14˚ per side. With that in mind: Can I use the 30˚ degrees configuration on my Sharpmaker to sharpen these knives? Is this going to actually damage the blade? It's a 2˚ angle but I'm not sure if this is a big difference or not; ...

Sharpmaker enough for M4 or K390?
... my eye on the Centofante... that geometry just looked awesome and I didn't even care it's in VG10, at least I know its easy to sharpen with the Sharpmaker. Aside from sharpening knives, what did you use your Sharpmaker for?
Quirky question, but I thought we'd start a thread sharing what are other non-traditional uses for the Sharpmaker that you have done? Earlier, we duplicated a few sets of keys for some rooms in the house, but the keymaker was in a hurry to close shop, so the ridges of the ...

Sharpmaker white stones
I'm no expert at knife sharpening, but I've found that the Sharpmaker brown stones put a pretty sharp edge on a knife blade. What exactly do the white stones add to this? The ability to slice a hair? I don't spend a lot of time slicing (or splitting) hairs.
