Re: The Pain of Parting with Knives

How do you all cope with selling or giving away your knives?

I sold everything (and much more) in this photo over the span of a year or so. Due to medical issues and unemployment, at the tail end of the great recession.

Re: The Spyderco Story is now available at the Internet Archive

Although not the same, the Spyderco Byte carries on the tradition quite well, IMO

I was surprised at how many people I talked to at the Blade show this year who weren't aware of the newsletter.

The Spyderco Story is now available at the Internet Archive

Please forgive me if this is a duplicate notification, I performed a quick search and did not find this information had already been posted.

The Spyderco Story by Kenneth T. Delavigne has been uploaded to the Internet Archive and is available for viewing.

Re: Newb - Gen 1 Pacific Salt Question

An absolutely ancient recommendation was/is - pack the pivot with toothpaste (or other mild mild polishing compound) work the action several dozen times and then clean it out. I did this back in 2005/6 with both my Pacific Salt and the couple S30V Natives I got from Walmart.

Used toothpaste on one ...

Re: The on-going Stretch 2 review thread: Rust Review!

I lost the photos in this thread to Photobucket several years ago and have occasionally received requests asking for them. I recently found the zip file containing all the images and have fixed the links in the thread.

Reading my posts, this is a strange knife diary of questionable utility today ...

Re: Anybody know if there is a Yojimbo 1 re release on the horizon?

I saw that and thought the same thing. I would love a Yojimbo 1 sprint. The handle and overall ergonomics fit my hands a lot better, I could never get along with the Yo2.

The Yo1 is among the rarest Spydercos as well. I watched like a hawk for a few years and they come up for sale less often than ...

Re: Reveal 14 is on FIRE

My interest in Spyderco has been subdued the past few years, just not feeling many new models and content with what I already have. Saw a random repost on X about the reveal and went to look and was blown away. It's like they made one just for me.

I cannot believe the Para 3 Salt, Manix 2 Salt ...

Re: Knife trends you just don't understand?

Blade to handle ratio.

I've never considered a knife based on how large the blade was relative to the handle. Seems completely nonsensical to me that it's a driving force for people's opinions on how good a certain knife is or is not.

Re: What knives do you miss?

USN Endura
Yojimbo 1

Both had a very specific tactile feel and were very pleasing to own, hold, and use. Since I had to sell my examples I've only seen each for sale a small handful of times over the past decade plus. Never had the opportunity to buy.

Re: Left or right-handed knife user?

Left handedness is significantly higher than 10% - in the US. 15% would probably be a good lower bound but I've seen some data that 20% is a reasonable estimate.

I was a more ambidextrous knife user during my early years 20+ years ago when pocket clip options were less Left-Hand friendly.

Usually ...

Re: First Sharpening - What's it Do to Resale Value?

10-20% for a "good" edge.

Something like an Edge Pro mirror edge with great photos can be closer to 0-10%. Sharpmaker sometimes the same, depends on the model. I think serrated edges take a bigger hit.

I've seen people attempt to sell knives with really good mirror edges for a premium but it doesn ...

I don't think the design would translate that well to FRN. It would probably be too thick. Would love to see another run as well.

Re: Price increases 2023?

The other day I made a post about the price of things since I joined the forum in 2007.

The price of Spydercos has roughly doubled in those 15 years.

It got me thinking about other things I buy, and whether or not they've doubled in price.

Skateboards are the same price as in 2007.
Disc golf ...

I've heard it said that "Once something is posted on the internet, it's there forever." If that statement is actually true, then there is, or someday will be, some way to recover it all.

As much as that was true in the past, it's not anymore. Millions of photobucket/flickr images were (and ...

Re: Let’s face it Liner Locks and Back Locks suck!

I think back locks and liner locks are pretty great. Ambidextrous, strong and reliable. Funnily enough, the right-hand Military is probably the most lefty friendly liner lock ever. They work fine with gloves and can be closed well with poor fine motor skills.

Compression locks are another story. I ...

Re: Rebuilding your collection from scratch

I'd buy 2 Pacific Salts, a Dodo, and keep an eye out for the rarest Spyderco - the original Yojimbo.

Breakdown in order above:
-EDC+Backup - can't beat the Pacific.
-Exceptional design to show off on the mantle - Dodo just has a design language that speaks to me.
-For nostalgia purposes - The ...
