I voted other. I believe in using the right tool for the job, just as I was taught. I won't ruin a knife doing something it wasn't meant to do. That doesn't mean I won't use a knife, or I'm afraid of sharpening my knives or getting them dirty. I usually enjoy sharpening and cleaning my guns and kniv...

You guys that say that ZDP is easy to sharpen, keep your knives sharp because dull ZDP is a PITA to re-sharpen.

I guess it's subjective. How would you compare it to S30V, and 440V (S60V) ? To me it's easier. Joe L.

2. ATS-34/ZDP-189 laminate is the far superior marketing pitch -- the hot steel from two weeks ago and the hot steel from today. I think It's more than that Joe. 420J2 seems to scratch up a lot easier than ATS 34. On a high end "gents" or "executive" or collectors knife that wou...

Also, as Joe mentioned, Chrome carbides are not as hard as vanadium carbides to sharpen. When we make something with S90V (9% Vanadium), you'll get to make that comparision. I'm ready Sal. I'm looking foreward to it, and several others you have talked about. That would be the fixed bladed outdoors ...

. I thought they were laminated for flexibility and other reasons, that it was a bad idea to make a solid ZDP189 blade... I think my delica is doing fine with no sign of brittleness. The reason the Caly and Horn are laminated is because the shops that made them didn't have a laser to cut the blanks...

440V is a lot less difficult to sharpen with diamonds than without. As far as wether you should get one, Is a matter of your own opinion. I don't even own a Spyderco sharpener. I use everything from DMT diafolds to hard arkansas stones, to leather strops with a polishing compound depending on the jo...

A2 is a good knife steel if you keep it coated. The A2 Chris Reeve I've got will loose sharpness in storage if the edge wasn't coated before storing. It's a good knife though. Joe L.

I agree. ZDP is easy to sharpen. It doesn't need cladding IMO either. I've had more edge chipping from S30V than my delica's. As I understand it Sal stated it the only reason some companies clad it is because it can't be stamped and to cut a 1/8th inch full width blade blank you need a laser cutter....

S30 isn't without troubles either. I've had edge chipping on a native that was only used for very light duties like cutting dog treat bags open. Not even cardboard or wood. I know this trouble is supposed to go away after enough surface steel is removed but it was disconcerting at first. I like 440V...

Handles should be designed to 1) keep the fingers and or hand from sliding foreward onto the blade causing severe damage to the owner. In "emergency" situations this happens more than most imagine. 2) the handle should be strong enough for the knives intended purpose, and then some. 3) The...

Not in order. That's too much thinking for me.

1) Black Endura VG10
2) Delica ZDP 189
3) R2
4) Manix 83mm
5) Horn ZDP
6) Native 440V
6) Chinook
7) Calypso (all versions)

There are some others that could easily make the list as favorites. These on the list are the ones used the most. Joe L.

I prefer the delica for it's solid chunk of ZPD steel, but I don't mind the Jess Horn at all. The Horn's blade shape gives it advantages in some other circumstances. I say no compromise, give me all of them. The right tool for the job makes things a lot easier. Joe L.

A titanium handled lockback with 2 3/4th inch flat ground M4 or BG42 (polished) blade. For lower costs use a FRN ( D4) handle but don't compromise on the steel. No cladding, just the steel. BG42 at about 58-59 as SOG had troubles with broken blade tips at 60-62. I'm not sure what is best for the M4....

Why shouldn't you criticize the government? You are paying their wages after all.

Dialex, I , like most others do just that. This isn't the place for it though. There are thousands of forums just for that. This is a spyderco knive forum. That was initially my point anyway. Joe L.
