Re: Shaman Cru-Wear Sprint Run release ?

I called Blade HQ and was told that the winners started being reached out to by Blade HQ yesterday. So if you haven’t heard then you were not picked. If I recall I think the lottery said that you have 2 days to claim it, so I’d imagine if some knives are claimed a few people will get the chance to g...

Re: Shaman Cru-Wear Sprint Run release ?

I’m very happy with my purchase from National Knives. This is my first Shaman, and the Cruwear blade is what brought me to wanting the knife. The Micarta is a nice, unique touch that looks great. Generally I prefer more texture on my handles for traction, but the sculpted handles and ergonomics on t...

Re: Shaman Cru-Wear Sprint Run release ?

I got strung along by KC on a preorder before, and won’t go that route again. I kept hearing to be patient as they would be getting a few more shipment. Obviously it never came. Hopefully they are more cautious on allowing more pre-orders than they are likely to get allocated.

Re: Shaman Cru-Wear Sprint Run release ?

I’m hoping I manage to get one of these. I’ve been waiting to try out the Shaman, and I like Cruwear a lot. It balances ease of sharpening, toughness, and wear resistance well. I probably would have got a Shaman earlier, but I’ve been carrying my Native Chief since it came out. The contoured scales ...

Re: Extra coarse/low grit stropping

This is all somewhat interesting because I've thought that maybe taking a super refined, razor sharp edge and making it more "toothy" might indeed enhance the results for certain types of cutting jobs. Personally after chatting with Ankerson I'm starting to get away from stropping in general and ma...

Re: Extra coarse/low grit stropping

I’ve been experimenting with using 16 micron CBN compound on leather. I have been happy with how it performs. It seems to leave a finish somewhat finer than a 1000 grit Shapton Glasstone. It has pretty good slicing aggression, but it can shave above the skin. It’s a pretty good grit for a quick touc...

Re: Thickness behind the edge?

Of the models currently in production by Spyderco the Spydiechef is the thinnest behind the edge, and by some margin. Quoting a post I made in another thread near to when I bought one: I picked up one of these yesterday, mostly based what I'd been hearing about it having a fairly thin edge geometry...

Re: MAP policy change? 35%

I only recently found out that former Military, not just active duty, can buy knives for 50% of MSRP directly from Spyderco. For me that is going to save me a good chunk of money for my purchases compared to the 65% MAP. Just a heads up in case former Military members weren’t aware of this.

Re: How thick is the grind on the Sliverax?

My HAP 40 Caly 3 is .018” at the top of the bevel from the factory. Most of my Para 2’s have been .023”-.025”. My Police 4 was .025” from the factory.

Re: CPM D2 Paramilitary

The handle on the PM1 is more crowded than the PM2. Steel I really like CPM D2 in my Military. I really used that knife a lot and it takes a great edge, very crisp and burr free. Mine Rockwell tested at 62 RC.

Re: Confessional

My confession is that after taking the "Inferior steel challenge" I have kind of become a fan of 8cr13mov. :o Years ago I had Phil Wilson test a Byrd I had at 61.5 RC. It takes full zero edge angles without much complaint and is easy to sharpen chips out of when it does take damage. 8CR13MOV by Spy...

Re: Chokwe Dreams

I carried my Chokwe for about a year straight. It makes an excellent EDC and slices good for a factory made knife. I’d be fine with Super Blue or HAP 40, but I certainly wouldn’t complain if AEB-L was used in it. Run a thinner edge with AEB-L and you’d have similar performance to 52100, but with sta...

Caly Jr in Super Blue will suit me well. The Orange H1 Spyderhawk will match my yellow version well also.

Re: Any update on the Police 4 K390?

 20 degrees inclusive? I realized mine wasn't that sharp out of the box either, so I followed Joris' example. I rigged it on my Wicked Edge last night and gave it a 38 degrees inclusive (sounds really dumb now.....) I like to keep my edge safe, but I understand I can already safely reduce it t...

Has anyone with calipers measure the thickness at the top of the edge bevel? I’m trying to get a feel for how thin the edge is.

Re: Thinnest blades/grinds? Best slicers?

The Caly Jr was very thin for a folder, with an edge around .010” behind the edge and 10 degrees per side. For a large folder the Police 4 has a thin blade stock, but the edge is .025” behind the edge. I went to 9 degrees per side and it is better now. I hear the Chaparral is the thinned current Spy...

Re: H1 changed color

And, if you put something on a blade that rusts it can spread to the steel and cause rust into the steel where it would not otherwise rust. I honestly have no idea if that would apply to H1. It does to steel like 440C, 420, 300 series etc. I have yet to see any real corrosion other than Gunmike (?)...
