Re: Experiences with hawkbills?

When I first started into Spyderco knives, I couldn't wait to get the stainless steel handled Harpy because the blade was so different looking. But, with the exception of cutting some fishing lines at the river and paracord rope at home, I never really had much use for it which was a pity because it...

Re: Reveal 14 Live!

I'd be very interested in either the Manix XL or Military with it's brown handle and Cruwear steel, as my new "big folder". At the moment, my big boy is the Military with fluted titanium handle but I just can't warm to it over the much more comfortable and grippy G-10 or Micarta. The only ...

The WolfSpyder - any updates?

Hello folks, Since way last year, this one has been out of stock at Woodlore waiting on a new model "available in 2023". 2022’s gone and it's now the end of the tenth month of 2023 but no news, at least as far as I've noticed. Has anyone heard anything about this one since? I was really ho...

Re: What are ya drinkin????

I'm having a couple of Erdinger wheat beers. Sunday morning = breakfast beers - but, man, these are so dour and bland. A world of difference compared to more flavoursome tasty wheat beers like Weihenstephaner, Schneider or Paulaner. My local shop only had this one so I really should have went to the...

Re: The more I carry and use the UKPK the more I like it

I can tell a big difference in edge retention between BD1N and S30V when cutting the same things day in day out with my UKPK’s... I think most enthusiasts would Ouch ;) In my defence, I wasn't saying I don't know the difference in steel performance. If you use a knife at all, it doesn't take much w...

Re: The more I carry and use the UKPK the more I like it

I see your point, Jim, and you're right. I've kinda regarded S30V as my standard coming from both Spyderco and CRK, when I was into them. At a later date, today's super steel will regarded as average or a crapper. No doubt, there will be a time in the future where people will see steel, or another f...

Re: What are ya drinkin????

I'm enjoying a few Tyskie beers. I'm no a beer snob, by any means, but I do love a nice tasty beer over some others and this one is top hole for a very reasonable price at my local shop. Plus, it's the original Made In Poland bottles!

Re: The more I carry and use the UKPK the more I like it

Funny, Flash, but felt the exact same way about the UKPK. I was all set for the drop point HH model and, while waiting, I completely went off the idea. I thought what's the difference in these slippies to make me buy the drop point when I already have the same leaf blade model and this talk about st...

Re: New Dragonfly

For me, this size of knife is just great for opening letters and parcels or general pocket carry to sharpen pencils. My very favourite one for those duties is the Q-Ball. It just missed out on my Top 5 but it's an easy 6 because I love the quirky appeal of the white ceramic ball lock in the two mode...

Re: Importance of Handwriting

Thanks for the shortcut to the good ones. Any chance you can provide similar for mechanical pencils? Sorry, Bolster, but I didn't use them enough to have any real favourites. I remember the Rotring pencils were very well made. And I enjoyed the chunky Kaweco Sketch Up pencil, especially the model w...

Re: Your Username...why did you choose it?

Going back through this thread there are some names I miss seeing around It's really weird you should say that cos I was thinking the exact same thing when I went through this thread a while ago. Some people come onto the forum, make hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of posts then just stop and ne...

Re: Importance of Handwriting

Nobody here a fan of mechanical pencils? I can't buy enough of them. From 0.5 to 0.9 I love them all. Favorite to date is the GraphGear 1000 by Pentel. Years ago, I tried some mechanical pencils and the broad leaded clutch pencils too. I quite liked the chunky clutch pencils for sketching but just ...

Re: Importance of Handwriting

If anyone knows of a nice fountain pen that can be left unused for a week or two without drying out, please share. Ball point pens are uninspiring. Black ink is boring. I find my Pelikan's are usually okay over a fair period a period of time, in all sizes. One brand which seems to dry out quickly f...

Re: Biggest sturdy Spyderco folder?

If you asked which knife I'd like to see coming back and regret missing out on originally, it would have to be Tatanka. The combination of that big blade and Powerlock is just incredible looking.

Re: What do you view as the main grip on these types of knives?

I'm in the habit of always using the choil in my grip for the simple reason that it takes me closer to the cutting edge and I find that to be more accurate and comfortable. Even more so in a larger knife when I'm using the tip or whole blade length to do something.

Re: Importance of Handwriting

I'm not sure about over in The States, but here in the UK / Ireland, dementia is the number one cause of death even ahead of cancer, cases of which have crept up recently from 1-in-3 to 1-in-2. There are lots of theories about why dementia has sky-rocketed but, like you, I believe that the concentra...

Re: Importance of Handwriting

I couldn't agree more. Writing something down is a sure-fire way of remembering it better and I also enjoy carrying a little A6 booklet in my pocket for making short notes and even quick sketches. At home, I have a larger A5 book to keep a record of things I have done or need to do later. A fountain...

Re: The more I carry and use the UKPK the more I like it

I wouldn't mind seeing a G10 UKPK Salt. I love my current UKPK Salt, but a G10 version would rock. One question I have is, how do the backsprings on UKPKs hold up over time? Mine is the same as when I got it, but I've seen posts here by some who claim the backsprings on theirs weakened over time. I...

Re: Favorite non spyderco knives?

I'm really torn between two at the moment, My Schrade USA Uncle Henry LB5 and my Mora Eldris. I love the Schrade for it's traditional pocket knife appeal and the Mora for much the same reason - it's a handy little fixed blade knife that can be pocket carried and do a whole host of everyday cutting s...

Re: The more I carry and use the UKPK the more I like it

I have the original drop-point HH penknife and it's easily my favourite ever slipjoint. From my first ever knife, a James Barber ERA slippie, this model just takes the whole design idea of a non-locking folder to another level.

They're wonderful knives.
