Re: Sent Brouwer in for bottoming out lock. Returned completely untouched

Update: http://imgur.com/gallery/g8X9XJq Peened the lock insert a whole bunch and thoroughly voided my warranty permanently but the knife locks up at 60% now. Note the extra large detent ball as the old one popped out. Detent hole on blade had to be widened as well but the detent and action feels pr...

Re: Sent Brouwer in for bottoming out lock. Returned completely untouched

Hi, jarvis959: I spoke with Charlynn in W&R and it would seem that you have already had a follow-up discussion with her (perhaps just before you posted). In that conversation, Charlynn asked that you send your knife back in for further evaluation during our regular Warranty & Repair meeting...

Re: Sent Brouwer in for bottoming out lock. Returned completely untouched

There have been numerous posts about how W&R stocks no parts for the knives and cannot get them. The warranty is an "almost warranty" and does not conform to the warranties from other companies. If you have a knife with great sentimental value, do not send it in, IMO. Also, the lock b...

Re: Sent Brouwer in for bottoming out lock. Returned completely untouched

Spyderco’s first letter states (as near as I can make it out, it is much harder to read than the second letter for some reason) that they are pleased to offer you a complimentary refurbishment and sharpening if you provide the return shipping. It’s a form letter addressed to “Spyderco Customer” not...

Re: Sent Brouwer in for bottoming out lock. Returned completely untouched

They replied in the letter that they did the best they could on the knife. They also state it is out of warranty and give reasons or examples why. They also tell you that you aren't eligible for a replacement. I guess you already knew that. If the knife was still under warranty they wouldn't have a...

Re: Sent Brouwer in for bottoming out lock. Returned completely untouched

So the detent ball is hitting the scale when opened? Hard to tell from the photo. That lockup is very late though. I just got a Mantra 2 and it locks up late. The lock moves all the way over under heavy cutting pressure. But lockup is solid. Detent ball has space between scale. yup when flicked ope...

That's disappointing. Would be interested in seeing a photo of the lockup if you don't mind posting one.
I linked multiple pictures including before and afters as well as communications ive had with Spyderco in my initial post

Re: Sent Brouwer in for bottoming out lock. Returned completely untouched

Any modification breaks the warranty, disassembly too oftentimes. Yes, this isn't what they say is the warranty, but every time someone sends in an obviously disassembled or modified knife, their presumption from CS or the warranty department is the modifications/disassembly caused the problem. Ple...

Re: Sent Brouwer in for bottoming out lock. Returned completely untouched

Probably internal miscommunication, if I had to guess. I wouldn’t worry, Spyderco is known for making it right. For context, I sent in my Spyderco Brouwer for repair ... So: As far as I understand you sent the knife in and it came back not repaired in the way you expected, or was agreed on or even ...

Sent Brouwer in for bottoming out lock. Returned completely untouched

For context, I sent in my Spyderco Brouwer for repair about a month ago due to a lock that was completely bottoming out and had significant up and down blade play as well as a blade that refused to center no matter how tight the pivot was turned. The knife was bought at the end of October last year ...

Re: Paramilitary 2 receiving Para 3 CQI?

The polished bit of the detent ball ramp is actually a distinct full flat area. This was on the standard satin S30V and I have yet to own a para 3 sprint so I can't speak for them, but it's defnitely done at the factory. I agree that the PM2 should transition to a floating stop pin too, though some ...

Paramilitary 2 receiving Para 3 CQI?

Is there any chance the Paramilitary 2 will be treated to some of the improvements the Para 3 has? Things like more radiused G10 and mirror polished detent ball tracks seem like they would be no-brainers that most everyone would agree on without changing what a Paramilitary 2 intrinsically is. Seems...

Signed! As of now we've got 6x the number of signatures needed for the House of Parliament to have to address it, but more is obviously pressure politicians to take it seriously.
