Re: Mr. Howard Viele has passed
I’m very sorry to hear this. The C42 was one of my first Spydercos. My condolences to his family.

Re: What's The Best Deal You Have Made on a Spydie?
C34 Jess Horn II I snagged on eBay for $55. There were a couple rust spots on the blade and no one was biting, so I took a chance and got it, then put the blade in Evapo-Rust for a couple hours. Wiped the spots off and it’s like they were never there. Rest of the knife was in great shape with no rus...

Re: Knifecenter Spyderco V.S. Buck Competition
I like the Buck design, but Spyderco wins with ergos, different steels, and blade shape. Buck has the deep carry clip, Micarta if you wish, and it’s made in the USA.
So I’ll happily take and use the Buck if it’s given to me, but I’ll BUY the Spyderco.

Re: No more love for the Rhino ?
I love mine. The size is excellent, ergos work very well for me, and the blade shape is something I’ve never tried before. And it looks the business, the CF ply looks nice and feels great. One odd thing I will say is that the very end of the blade sticks up through the compression lock opening, so m...

I like this idea, Sal. More focused on what’s coming out soonish, and we have a better idea of when.
And I’m in for a Meerkat.

Re: Hard truths and observations
Thanks Sal for chipping in here and there. Rare a business owner ever talks about the underlying business issues and thoughts behind a price increase. It’s illuminating. As for mid-priced knives of high value quotient, what of the Cat, Chicago, Polestar, Alcyone, Persistence, Tenacious and the like?...

Serrated Endura 1, and (does this count?) a Benchmade AFCK back in ‘96. The Endura’s in a box somewhere; I carry the AFCK very occasionally since it’s so large.

I have one of those AFCK’s. My second “tactical” knife, got it in... ‘95 I think? My first was a Gen 1 Endura.

Re: Efficient Missing Logo and Blade Steel ID
I’m pretty sure different knife manu’s might have “tells” when it comes to their output and Spyderco probably knows them. So get the fake, look for the tells, ID the factory.

Scorpius. I really liked how off-the-wall it looked, and the handle must have been a joy to, well, handle.

Preordered a Delica. This and the sprint Caly will pretty much do for my LBK needs along with my Cat.

Re: Why does Spyderco allow this?
I have an ATS-34 AFCK from around '94-'95, and it looks more like a Spyderco than any other non-Spyderco knife I've ever seen, from the hole to the blade shape to the overall handle ergonomics. Pretty sure Benchmade had a license from Spyderco for those things though - I think I remember the BM cata...
