I'm one driver's-side Spyderco fan who is more than a little pleased by my new Endura 4 and Delica 4. Both feel like they were made specifically for me.

I really like those stainless steel handles since I usually carry them in the front IWB position. They are nice and thin, and slide in and out easily. So far I have never had an operational problem with any steel-handled spyderco. One Police Model saw daily use for seven years until it got lost and ...

Just got the official word from Spyderco: The Steel-handled Endura 4 is hollow ground and the FRN-handled model is sabre ground. In spite of this I ordered up a fully-serrated, hollow-ground Endura 4. Over the past weekend I tried sharpening some serrations on a beat up hollow-ground Spyderco I got ...

UK Ken: Well, I wasn't aware there was anything significant about it, but then suspected there might be since it is so old. IIRC I bought a bunch of Sypderco knives in the early - mid '80s. The first one was a small Clipit which was the first "good" knife I bought new and it worked so well...

Maybe I will have to chat them up, because one dealer says this: Spyderco Endura 4, Stainless Steel, Spyder Edge These newly re-designed for 2006 Endura's have Stainless steel handles, four-way pocket clips. Flat saber-ground blade, David Boye dent on the lockback round out this knife. This is the e...

Thanks Catamount, but I want a Stainless Steel handle and the catalog also says this:

http://spyderco.com/catalog/details.php?product=211

So, is the FRN sabre and the SS hollow? If so, I could probably live with FRN and it might be cheaper too.

Endura 4 - Hollow or Sabre Ground?

Quick question gents - I'm thinking about ordering up a fully serrated Endura 4 which I believe comes with a VG10 blade. However, I have heard it described as hollow ground by some dealers and sabre ground by others. It seems like the sabre grind would be a little easier to sharpen and that would be...

Thanks for the advice gents. I was poised to sharpen up that Harpy the other day but will let it sit. The shape of that thing is beginning to grow on me though and I may have to pick up a recently manufactured one.

Old Spyderco Question

My Dad recently gave me back a couple of Spydercos I gave him over 20 years ago (I think) which he never used. Apparently the shapes didn't appeal to him. Anyway they are: 1008 R-PLN Clipit Harpy in a red box and a 1003R-PLN Clipit Hunter in a blue box. Both are unsharpened. These knives appeal to m...

Cameron: I think the only problem with the Lil Temp was the high cost of manufacture, due to all the machining necessary on the G-10 handle. This probably set the price at a point where sales were slow. However, I have never seen a folder with the same capabilities as this knife. It is a powerful co...

Updated Lil Temp?

Recently I started carrying my Lil Temp again and am developing new appreciation for it. It is back in the rotation since I switched to a thin nylon web belt which is more resistant to being eaten by the very secure clip this knife has. Previously it was eating my pants and therefore had to go on a ...

Kaiser:

It is a critical piece of gear if you work with rope, probably named after the nose of the fish of the same name. It is used in splicing - either ends, loops or pieces together. Also for loosening knots.

Well, my free sample came in two days flat and it is impressive stuff. There is a noticeable difference in the lubricating effect of Militec-1 and Ballistol. With Militec, the knife pivot almost feels loose. However, I don't think Militec is exactly "food safe." It probably isn't a deadly ...

Shards: Thanks for the link. I just ordered up some samples. Thus far I have been using ballistol (ballistol.com) with good results on guns, knives, locks, gunstocks, in bullet lube, as black powder solvent and on leather. You can also drink the stuff, so it is good to have if you can only carry one...

Neither company makes a bad knife as far as I know, and it is particularly handy that the two companies seem to have different priorities. Between the two of them, if you can't find a knife that fits your particular or general purpose, maybe something other than a knife is called for.

My sharpening stuff consists of two DMT diamond bench stones (fine & medium), a black (really hard) arkansas bench stone and a strop. The strop I made from a 3" x 18" piece of leather glued rough-out to a maple board. It has a perpendicular dowel handle on the back of one end to keep m...

Recently I traded for what appears to be a "Pro-grip Lite" with a partially serrated G-2 blade. The reason for this trade was so I can take a crack at sharpening sypderedge serrations and to see how well I like them. However, I am probably ill-equipped for the task and was wondering which ...

It is widely speculated that Hillary Clinton will be Kerry's running mate. If this develops I will be considerably more forgiving of errors GWB has made, if any.
