Thanks Cliff. That brings us back to what Ankerson was saying.
I saw Roman's book in German. I'm going to hold out for now, maybe later. From your studies and experience, would you list of a few steels that are impressive from the perspective of apex stability?

Re: Best steels/knives for...
Thanks Cliff. This is all very educational, and I appreciate your patience.
It is going to depend on what is cut and how and the geometry of the rest of the blade. For example some materials stick onto the blade and a thicker grind is necessary to essentially break the material as otherwise you ...

Re: Best steels/knives for...
Thanks again Cliff and Ankerson. I clearly need to work on my sharpening skills with S110V.
I had a few additional questions. I get Ankerson's point that the smaller the apex, the sharper the blade as well as Cliff's definitions.
I'd like to use the second definition Cliff listed, as it makes the ...

Re: Best steels/knives for...
2channel <> I have used 3M diamond lapping films mounted on EP glass blanks and had superb results. Quite inexpensive to dip your toe versus buying new mounted stones. PM me if you want to know more.

Re: Best steels/knives for...
I get it now. I went back to look at Cliff's picture of the 10V fracturing during sharpening. I'm pretty sure I'm running into the same issue with S110V. I'm probably using too much force at low grit. Looks like I need different stones or take it slower with my current ones. Thanks Cliff. Let me ...

Re: Best steels/knives for...
Thanks Cliff and Ankerson for the feedback...
I assume this is because the bond strength is too high and you are seeing worn abrasives. If you can try getting some of the Sigma Power Select II stones they are actually made to cut HSS. They have a much more friable bond and so the abrasive is ...

Re: Best steels/knives for...
Thanks Cliff. Some more thoughts and feedback...
I have not used the Shapton Glass, but have other Shapton stones. The ones I have are not ideal for very high carbide steels as they are not friable enough. They can cut them but they tend to wear/slick and need to be reconditioned. The ideal ...

Re: Best steels/knives for...
I'm game. Here's a use case.
-what stones are being used, how much time is available for sharpening, is a rod/strop used
Edge Pro with Shapton Glass stones 220 grit to 8000 grit. I don't mind spending a few hours on sharpening, but don't want to do it very often. I don't typically use a rod or ...

Re: Rust ? on ZDP-189
I just cleaned off a ZDP-189 knife a couple of days ago that had some spotting. I like to use the soft cleanser version of Bar Keepers Friend and a soft wet sponge. Flitz is a great cleaner as well, but you do want to clean the blade well to remove any remaining residue if you'll be using it on food ...

Re: HAP40 Delica and Endura
The scales I ordered are specifically made for the Endura 4, so hopefully they're recessed. They're a green micarta and they look really nice on the Endura 4 the producer showed them on.
I haven't purchased an FRN knife yet, but I can imagine it would be a nice material as I read it provides some ...

Re: HAP40 Delica and Endura
After reading Sal's comments about HAP40 I decided to place a preorder for the HAP40 Endura.
I haven't owned an Endura or replaced scales before, but I decide to order some scales for this knife as well. Does anyone have feedback on if it's straightforward to replace the FRN scales? Are they held ...
