Re: S110v Manix 2 Abuse Continued, Steel and Knife review.
but more so with the member's willingness to test an expensive blade I've read about such tests so I did my own. I had an M4 version that someone assembled, and a new S110V version, and some large double ply boxes in my garage. I had sharpened the M4 myself and the S110V had a sharp edge from the f...

Re: S110V Paramilitary 2 has dropped!!!
I actually like the color, although I really figured I would probably pimp it out with some TI or carbon fiber scales anyway. There are tons of spyderco knives I would like to have, but this one and a Southard are the only ones I REAAAALLY would like to have. If I wasn't so curious on how hap40 woul...

I had to laugh when I saw the size of the last branch. That's chopper sized.
I bet If you had left it an even 30 and polished the edge it would have stayed sharp at the cost of some microchipping. I can take mine out tomorrow and see how much wood it takes to dull it.

I disagree, some kinds of stainless are just barely that, while others can take a salt water bath.zhyla wrote:The balls in Manix2's are stainless of some variety. It's not important exactly what kind of steel it is.

Re: What kind of steels used in the CBBL and liner locks?
I'm almost curious enough to leave my knife outside, but rust/pitting on the spring or ball bearing would more or less require a trip back to golden, and degreasing it all would be pretty hard. I come pretty close to agreeing that the s110v manix may be the best knife for 100$ which is why I'm so cu...

What kind of steels used in the CBBL and liner locks?
This might be a trade secret, but does anyone know, or could Sal chime in as to what kind of steels are used in the CBBL on the manix, the military liner lock, and the backlocks for that matter. Reason is it occurred to me that the manix 2 in s110v would be a perfect knife to use around water due to...

Re: Should you wait to get a particular Spyderco?
Yes and no. Spyderco knives typically get updated and improved from release, think about the military, how many blade steels it has been, as well as the tweaking of the lock etc. However if you were waiting for the best version you'd be waiting forever.

Re: PM2 S110V question
For a true non collector, I suppose it lessens certain sprints, especially the s90v one. But for example M4 should be a much tougher steel, will you notice it? that is hard to say, but its also hard to say if you'd notice any difference between s110v and s30v, it depends on what you use it for.

Re: S110V models
110V production knives, who would have thought such a thing would happen. It makes you wonder where it all ends. What recipes are left for steel? If someday a steel like this could be as common place as VG10, what would you see in high end exotic customs? I guess we can look forward to vibranium an...

Nothing too embarrassing, was definitely a fail though when I while sitting a I dropped a knife, it landed handle first on my... groin, bounced off and stuck in the floor, can't explain how glad I am that it didn't do the reverse.

Honestly, I wouldn't freak out about lube on the lockface, I'll bet money a lot of knives leave the factory with oil on the lockface either intentionally or not.

Re: flipper that doesn't flip so well (Southard)
Is it gritty when you open it or its not not easy to flip? Not gritty at all. I just got home and I'm planning on putting a drop of oil on the bearings to see what that does, after I get done playing with the new Manix S110V I just got in the mail! Sounds like its mostly skill related, combined per...

I was expecting that, and I still cringed... I wouldn't trust anyone who power tool sharpens, not that it can't be done right, but its usually not.

Re: flipper that doesn't flip so well (Southard)
Mine was fine when it was new, but greasing the bearing pivot was the game changer. Now I can tighten the pivot to the point there is absolutely no play whatsoever, and the blade falls so free that it just cut my thumb nail. It flips faster than my phone camera can record. Flips fine using either t...

Re: Sharpmaker - I'm Impressed
I kinda disagree with the sharp maintainer thing, It was only a nightmare if the bevel was over 40 degrees, which admittedly a lot of factory edges were. Or the edge was damaged. If you sharpened it on the 30 degree setting, even if you dulled the knife to the point you could saw at your arm withou...

Just a friendly nod to Spyderco CS.
Crossthreaded a screw attempting to switch the pocket clip on the pm2, emailed CS asking if I could buy replacements. It might be only like 20 cents of screws, but there is shipping costs so it didn't seem fair to expect free ones, although I know Spyderco does that sometimes. They replied back sayi...
