Re: Proper FRN cleaning.
Now I've found BALLISTOL to be a miracle working product for G-10 handles>> Ballistol is the only thing I've used on my G-10 handles for quite a few years now. I have used Ballistol on FRN handles but I've actually found that a product you can get at your local grocery or hardware store called &quo...

Re: Proper FRN cleaning.
Can't see the picture? video?, but it sounds like an interesting experiment. Knowing what acetone can do to other plastics, I would never have considered using it on nylon. Well after a 24 hours I had pulled it out.... gotta admit I was wrong.. the frn had turned to rubber.. the same soak did nothi...

How the **** do you manage to do that closing a knife, even I don't think I can do that. And I'm that guy who breaks everything.

You can't fight 10-15 people. You'd get mobbed. 2-3 maybe but 15 toddlers could take a person down. Situational awareness is important avoid being boxed in at all cost. I'll circle back if I think I'm being followed even. People look for easy targets

Re: Proper FRN cleaning.
The title was more a joke :p I mainly wanted to see how FRN would hold up. This stuff will take paint, marker, epoxy right off though so if you superglued your knife or something it might be interesting to know.

Re: Proper FRN cleaning.
Believe it or not, I do have a semi valid reason, you often see fears about polymers and chemical contact. I've found that its typically overstated. If this combination doesn't eat the FRN handle, then I can't think of a single chemical on the planet that would. At least that wouldn't also damage yo...

Proper FRN cleaning.
Simple mix acetone with Berryman B12 in a 1:1 Ratio and submerge your knife, afterwards you can reuse the bath again or use it for paint stripping, melting JB Weld, and chemical warfare the possibilities are many. Warning may cause melted knife, blindness, organ failure and or death. This was done b...

Heh, my manix would almost pull itself through the shrink wrap on a pack of water, no doubt that the lightest touch would slice a bottle open

Re: Is it me?
I honestly think the weird looks are in part due to the perceived dullness of pocket knives, seriously, think about it. The average knife is too dull to do anything but stab somebody with.

Re: Good use from Spyderco kitchen knives
Mine are excellent. They work much better as kitchen knives than the Southfork, Aqua salt or Mule because of the thin blade stock. If they should ever be discontinued again, I would buy backups for my backups! http://i1243.photobucket.com/albums/gg548/hansjkruger/Mobile%20Uploads/20150406_104449-sm...

Re: Ball Bearing Lock Weak Point?
It is not irrelevant. Tests like these are how we get better knives. Also, when I used to work for a living (cattle ranch, remodeling, etc) taught me that there are some few scenarios where a knife might have enough force applied to it to cause it to fail. Just ask the many people cut or seriously ...

Re: Ball Bearing Lock Weak Point?
IMO If a knife company has to resort to that kind of irrelevant hype to promote its product, there's something wrong with its knife in the first place in terms of normal knife properties. Bad ergonomics, bad steel, bad design, bad whatever. Its knife can't compete heads up in normal knife propertie...

Re: Southard questions
Domino is completely different than the Southard. I have both and the Domino is much easier to open with thumb or middle finger. My Southard, black, opens easily with hole, but opens a little too fast with the stronger detent. I still do it, but use the flipper more. It's not as easy to do with the...

The amount of force needed is so excessive to make it a non issue though. It's like saying you don't want a knife that would break a blade when it took a cheater bar to do it

Re: Southard questions
Can't speak for the southard, but I can flick my domino with thumb, index finger and middle finger. It's not hard to do either, although the detent means it tends to be a fairly hard flick once the detent is overcame

Re: Ball Bearing Lock Weak Point?
I think extreme force is less of an issue than reliability for most any knife, that is to say that it matters less that the lock can hold hundreds of pounds, and more than it can resist shock without closing accidentally. which the manix does well.
