I love the Pingo - point or no point. I'm looking forward to the Spy DK. It seems I can handle no lock only if the knife is two handed. I don't know why, but if it's one handed, it feels like it needs a lock. Can't wait for this one. Yeah, funny thing about that. I had a similar impression a...

I agree. There is always a possibility of getting a lemon. I have the G10 DF and it stays in my pocket. Its fit and finish are excellent. I have customs that are not this good. It is smooth to open and beautifully ruggedly handsome. I have some FRN knives, too. I have not had your experience but I k...

What do you think of the SPY-DK?

Hi Folks, What do you all think of the SPY-DK? I am definitely interested. I took my Pingo, made in Italy, too, on my last around the world trip, swam in the ocean with it, got sand in it, cut plastic straps, opened things (even pried some). It was great, but I really missed having a point. The Ital...

Welcome to here. I would check out a Manbug. The balde is a little shorter and the handle isn't as big. Jack I agree with Jack. I have this knife and love it. However the Dragonfly will fit into your hand with all of your fingers on it. So...it is an excellent choice, as well. The Cat is a good kni...

Hey Doc Dan, I'm pulling out my chaparral now. I think I was lucky to get an xhp Chaparral while there were still mosly the s30v being sold. Truthfully I'd nver know the difference other than the letters but I like variety and have lots of s30v. Regarding your cons, I'm indifferent to blade polish ...

I forgot to speak of the sharp liner edges Deacon. I like when mine come sharp, even too sharp. It's not a big deal except my understanding is for the edges to be this sharp or "crisp" as you put it it demonstrates exceptional manufacturing to be able to get this without "sharpening&...

I believe this is specific to the XHP run of Chaparral 1's. My S30V Chaparral 1 doesn't have the overly strong spring, but the XHP one does. Someone posted a thread about it a while back. I lubed this thing like crazy 2 or 3 times and the spring is still very strong. It won't stop me from carrying ...

Pretty good review of the Chaparral CF Dan. I would agree with what you have said. You asked so I'll add my thoughts to yours. :) The polish on the blade looks more like a choice during manufacturing instead of a quality of the steel. I'm looking at mine (Chaparral 2, ti, XHP) and it's definately n...

Well, a few things come to mind. First, a nose is not able to get into crevaces like a sensitive finger can, unless you look like the Wicked Witch of the West. Also, I was speaking about getting caught unprepared with only the knife you have in your pocket, which for me, would be my every day pocket...

My favorite skinning knife is made from this steel. I also have a hard use folder from Benchmade made from this steel. I recommend it highly. A similar steel I have high hope for because it is a bit more rust resistant is CTS-XHP.

Check in between the seat where the seat belt clips. I have lost numerous knives there because somehow my knife catches on the seat belt buckle and comes out of my pocket in my wife's car.

Thoughts on the Chaparral Carbon Fiber CTS-XHP

Hi Folks, I have been carrying around a new knife and I thought I would share some of my observations. If you are looking for a cutting test there are posts elsewhere on this steel. I bought this knife, finally, after finding it available in CTS-XHP which, according to the steel maker's website was ...

I often carry a G10 Manbug. It is an amazing little knife and will do most cutting chores. It can even be used for defense in a reverse grip. Of course there are better choices, but in a pinch... This knife is very size efficient. The blade is almost as long as the Dragonfly blade, yet the knife is ...

Fairbairn had a lot to say about using an umbrella, or short walking stick, for defense. If you can find his books teaching these skills, they are simple and effective.

I think the OP's issue is only with low end steels. He seems to be saying they don't cut as well, even with a well sharpened edge. Yes, pretty much right on. I seem to remember a metallurgist/chemist one time (I think at the Alabama Bladesmith at the Iron Works) saying that it had something to do w...
