Re: Question about lanyard holes.........
I do not use lanyards but I can see some utility in them for people who like them. The lanyard hold doesn't bother me at all.

Re: Tip Up vs Tip Down Poll
With a little over a hundred votes in slightly more than half are tip up. If the poll was only tip-up and tip-down the percentage would likely have been higher. When Spyderco decided to not put tip-down holes in the Bodacious, even though they are there in the Shaman, they lost a sale. Buy one and ...

Re: Is this the knife everyone clamors for?
I like my Manix 2 BBL exactly the way it is, thank you. I almost 100% refuse to buy lockback knives.

Re: Is there a quintessential Spyderco?
I’m new to all of this but wondering if there is one, quintessential representation of the brand. What’s the model most synonymous with Spyderco? Thanks! I will say Delica because it seemed the be the most popular Spyderco model when I became aware of the brand. Similarly I think the Police could b...

Re: Tip Up vs Tip Down Poll
I'll make a prediction before I look at the results and before I read any of the other posts- these polls come up every couple of months year after year and the results are somewhat consistent. Roughly 75% of internet knife enthusiasts choose tip up. There are a lot of reasons- safety, comfort when ...

Re: Visualizing the Tradeoff of Higher Hardness
I’d much rather have toughness than edge retention personally. A rolled edge is annoying but easier for a beginner sharpener to fix than a chip I like the mix of toughness and edge retention in M4 but the graph shows that Cruwear would be tougher with just a bit less edge retention. I've always tho...

Re: What is the best application to tool steel for long term storage?
Birchwood-Casey's Barricade is a more sensible solution for long-term storage. If you want to take it one step further, seal each knife in a vacuum food storage bag. This is the stuff I use and it performed the best in my informal test. You can search the internet and find tests done by various peo...

Re: K390 vs S110V - Some Observations
I recently sharpened both my K390 Police 4 and S110V Military on my Edge Pro after the factory edge had deteriorated I've read a few times about potential problems with the factory edge although I don't know that I've seen hard evidence of this. Is there a chance that you need to sharpen away more ...

Re: Black Linen Micarta instead CF/G-10 please
I'm a big fan of polished micarta. I think I read that it wasn't as good for knife scales because it isn't as stiff as G10.

Re: Different knife different day, or one knife for life?
I tried to explain this to my wife, but she simply didn't understand. Tell her it's like women's shoes, or handbags. They all look alike to the man but to the woman they are vastly different. I put my knives in a rotation, when I get ready to switch to another knife I pick the next one in my rotati...

When I first saw this it reminded me of the Vallotton Sub-hilt. Now it looks like a cross between the sub-hilt (blade) and the Shaman (handle).

Re: Shot Show recap, thoughts, things I learned
I have owned frame locks and still own liner locks, I don't mind them at all. Manix 2 is a pocket hog but is overall my favorite model. Years ago I bought a PM2 because of the popularity and had to learn how to close it. I hold the knife between thumb tip and 3 fingertips with the point sticking out...

Re: Handmade Burl Wood Scales for the Gayle Bradley 2
Those look awesome, I can just imagine how much work it was. Burl is not very strong because the wood grain is so disrupted by the burl so it was a big win just to have them stay in one piece for the whole operation.

I missed out on those various Manix 2 exclusives but I did manage to get a LW Tenacious which I wanted to buy specifically for carrying while camping and hiking.

Re: I don't care about stainless *Edited
What does a non-stainless steel knife do, other than rot in its' sheath, that you can't do with Magnacut, CPM-154 or Elmax? OK these are generalizations based off of my impressions from being on knife forums for a long time- carbon steels can take on a finer edge, can be tougher, can achieve higher...

Re: What knife is best for…
I moved 10 years ago and afterwards I used my first Manix 2 (154CM) to cut down boxes, mostly because it was a work knife in my garage and I was using it specifically to cut boxes and so forth. It worked just fine but I suspect a thinner blade would work better. These days I use a dedicated box cutt...

Re: I don't give a #@$! about stainless
I own and use S110V, I also own and use M4, Rex45 and K390. I'm in a dry enough climate that I can get away with tool steels pretty easily. I don't give them much maintenance and there is rarely a problem with them but it is not out of the question. If I have carried M4 while working in the yard and...

Re: Your Ideal Folder for Hiking & Backpacking is....
I do a good amount of hiking and a little bit of backpacking. I used to do a lot of backpacking. I never carried a heavy knife and truthfully don't really need a knife for very much while backpacking. These days I would like to carry one of my Manix 2 LW but I don't want to risk an expensive knife s...
