what makes a knife MBC ?
I'm not looking for a rehash of recent discussions, but I'm still fuzzy on some things. Obviously any knife can be used as a defensive weapon. Spyderco defines MBC in terms of lock rating (obviously important). But I've been looking at the MBC knives and they are all really different. There has been...

Is there a batch date to watch out for (or a corrected date to look for). Were very many of the earlier batches defective or was it an isolated thing ? I just purchased by mailorder a Dodo that also says 8/28/03 on the box. Lock seems to stay closed OK, although it is a bit difficult to get hold of ...

Mike S - please do post your water knife observations when available. everyone - thanks for your input. I didn't think spyderco would make a knife that was a lousy cutter, but it is reassuring that experiences have been good so far. Mine is a PE (SE is great, but one of my frequent cutting tasks inv...

what's wrong with H1 ?
Maybe nothing. But H1 used in the new Salt is supposed to be extremely corrosion resistant, which is a good thing, but I'm guessing that it isn't as good as other stainless steels (s30v, VG-10, etc) in some other way, or its better corrosion resistance would make it a "better" choice overa...

specs on Chinook II
Saw the pics of the Chinook II posted at bladeforums. What a beautiful knife (IMO)! But I haven't seen any numbers on it. The original Chinook is a big, heavy knife and the II is supposed to be leaner/lighter or something. Anybody know the weight ? Is the handle size the same ? thanks

wow, thanks for all the suggestions. I actually found a Native III at the local sporting goods store. The handle fit reasonably well (a bit too fat for me), but I could get all my fingers on comfortably without any on the blade choil. Maybe a Native I, which appears to be flatter, would work even be...

thanks to everyone for your insights. Different things will work for different folks, but I have 2 problems with sheath carry (on a belt) - 1 is that at work I already get a lot of funny looks even carrying clipped discretely in a pocket (a delica or d'fly) and anything on a belt (even a leatherman)...

ergo handles - what works for you ?
Spyderco has been very innovative in handle design, but I don't have the chance to try before I buy, so am looking for your input. I have relatively small hands. What I want is a handle that feels really secure, with no tendency for hand to slide forward or back, or for knife to twist. What I have t...

gunting pocket carry ???
this knife just fascinates me. As a former (a long time ago) student of Arnis I'm also intrigued by Bram's approach to MBC (and Mike J.'s too). I can see carrying a yojimbo (or any typical knife) clipped in pocket or IWB even, but the gunting, I just don't know. I read some old threads on this, but ...

Great little knife. Used to be my EDC until I started carrying the Delica. Keep blade exactly as is. Slightly longer handle would be useful. VG-10 = great steel, good value. G-10 scales. I have the FRN (nice handle) and the SS (a bit slippery, but very solid). I prefer *non-metal* handles because wh...

interesting question... off the top of my head: + Terzuola - simple, solid, useable design. And I carry my Spyderco Starmate more than my Terz custom. + Glesser/Spyderco - the Delica has got to be one of the all-time most practical designs - it's the one I carry every day. + Randall in fixed blades....

lock strength
I am curious about lock strength on some of the forthcoming knives, particularly on Dodo, ATR (2 different locks) in comparison to compression lock (as on Lil Temperance) ? Which locks will be capable of MBC performance ?
thanks

regarding my comments to collectors: most of the posts regarding recently released knives have been reasoned and polite. I'm glad people speak their minds, and it's even better that Sal and Co. are responsive to customer feedback. We all have our own criteria when we decide where to put our dollars ...
