Re: Has anyone successfully used a Sharpmaker and ceramic rods to “sharpen” K390?

Another "yes", it's been great on my K390 Urban. Looking forward to picking up more in a Delica/Endela/Endura once I make up my mind which one.

Re: What knives in your collection keep wow-ing you?

Blue/204P Domino. I don't usually go in much for flippers or framelocks but the Domino is just a really nice design and the execution by Taichung is fantastic. Cuts really well, too - I got out the calipers and it's about 0.2mm thinner than my Manix2 despite both being listed as 3mm. I'd say that's ...

Re: Spydercos for steak knives?

Awesome, sounds like K05 or Z-Cut is indeed the right way to go if the man himself is onboard.

Thanks for all the feedback!

Spydercos for steak knives?

I'm looking at getting a new set of steak knives and was considering some Spydercos for the task. Specifically, I'm thinking maybe the - K05 4.5" utility - Z-Cut (pointed) - Bow River Counter Puppy seems a little small, and I'm not sure about being able to cut on a plate with it given its legs. Bow ...

Re: Brown M390 Manix

Just received a satin one from CutleryShoppe. Seems like a nice example of a Manix2 to me, though the ball clicks while opening when it passes the detent portion of the blade tang - not a problem, might wear in, just hadn't heard that on a Manix before. In any event, glad they did another run. Thoug...

Re: Para 3 CF M4

Knifeworks are very responsive to their customers but they also seem to have been left holding onto some of their exclusives for quite a while longer than most. I can't speak for them but my guess is they won't take the chance. Seems like other dealers have figured out a good formula: popular model...

Re: Red G10 Para 3 M390

Got mine in this afternoon - my first Para 3. First impressions are good. A little unsure about the pinned stop pin, given how much of a difference that can make in action on the PM2, and also not sure about the 0.140" blade stock retained from the PM2. My gut says I'd rather it dropped to 3mm/0.11...

Re: Spyderco Supergold, Superblue ? VG10

I'd be curious if that's true of CPM REX 45 models as well or if Golden kept them closer to M4 in hardness. Spyderco's CPM REX 45 has been consistently measured at around 66 HRC I believe. Considerably higher than their CPM M4. https://forum.spyderco.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=83847 Perfect, don't kno...

Re: Spyderco Supergold, Superblue ? VG10

Continuing the analogue steel notes - Supergold/SG2/R2 is also known as 3G by Fallkniven. Personally I like it in kitchen knives but have never used it in anything else. HAP40 is almost identical to CPM REX 45 with REX 45 having a small amount of Manganese and Silicon that HAP40 does not. From my ex...

Re: BBS DLC Paramilitary 2 Exclusive?

When did scrambling to hit a 3-minute window in the middle of the working day or paying a 50-100% markup to some flipper on bladeforums or ebay become everyone's preferred method of buying exclusives? Personally I'm starting to think I like the BBS method better... it's around long enough to buy it ...

Re: Spyderco's DLC Coating

Traditionally Spyderco's position has been that coatings are for light control. Any added corrosion protection is purely a secondary benefit. Quoting from an old thread: This is my opinion... the whole purpose of black coatings on :spyder: s, Leathermans, Chris Reeve One-Piece Range, etc., is to... ...

Re: Skinning knives, gift

The Sprig is still available from some dealers. National Knives still shows it in stock, for example. As long as they're comfortable sharpening S90V I would certainly recommend it. For steels I like stainless in the field, because while I'm generally careful with my stuff sometimes **** happens and ...

Just the M390 for me... The HAP40's got me covered for carbon and I've probably bought too many (kitchen) knives recently anyway.

Re: AEB-L Urban Performance Reviews

For those characteristics - easy to sharpen, taking a keen edge, tough at thin bevels, corrosion resistant - how much of an advantage does AEB-L offer over VG-10 (which I think the Police 4 LW will be offered in, and if not would probably to be easier to procure in Japan)? I can't speak to the toug...

Re: AEB-L Urban Performance Reviews

So for everyone that's been playing around with this knife.... Would you be for more Spydercos being run in AEB-L? Yes, but this steel has the things I prefer: easy to sharpen/reprofile, takes a keen edge, tough (for thinner bevels), and corrosion resistant. I don't mind if I give up wear resistanc...

Re: Cru-wear Delica

I think I might be the only guy in Spyderville who isn't waiting on this one with baited breath. I'm not really a delica guy, and I have other CruWear platforms that I enjoy, plus CruWear is not my top steel choice. One more for someone else. :) I haven't had any chipping issues with my HAP40 Delic...

Re: Cru-wear Delica

Popular model and a steel that people go crazy for, run in a limited number... can’t wait to watch the secondary market prices on these skyrocket... Depends on how they price them... for example, the BBS M390 Delica is still available at $109. I have a feeling that if they priced it at say $90 they...

Re: Cru-wear Delica

Comparing to the other non-stainless PM tool steel option for the Delica, HAP40 - CPM CruWear will be a little tougher and a little less wear resistant, is that right? Basically more along the lines of 3V than M4? (assuming comparable hardness... I know there have been a couple questions about the h...

Re: M390 Delica Blue FRN Bento Box Shop Exclusive

So.... has anyone heard anything about an Endura version of this?

I don't really carry an Endura much anymore but I could see a nice blue, M390 version bumping my 204P Military out of my pocket quite a bit.
