Where a blade coating excels is when a non stainless steel is used for the knife. To me, other than esthetics, a SS coated knife is kinda a moot point. I would prefer a nice bead blast finish on a SS knife any day. Now, if you are using O1, 1095.....etc. then a coating(and a well done coating at tha...

Here is some info I found on him. If you google Nessmuk or the name George Washington Sears you will find LOTS of cool info. "George Washington Sears, under the pen name of "Nessmuk," wrote many letters to Forest and Stream magazine in the 1880s. These popularized canoeing, the Adiron...

 That is todays society for ya! Just glad the guys at work are cool about mine :D My boss acutally paid for a chunk of O1 for me as a return to work gift :) :) :) Educating is key though I am starting to think/believe. After I talk to someone about how the knife is made, what it is used fo...

Hmmm, I never really researched that bit of info. My first guess is strength as he used I believe 5/32" for thickness on the blade...very thin by todays standard.

Thanks for the kind words

Nessmuk

Been wanting to make a Nessmuk knife ever since I started. I just got around to it now. I had a bit of steel(1084) left from a project I am working on and though I would try one out with a differential heat treat(my first one) and see what would come of it. I used white/ivory G-10 and red liners. Al...

I have to talk to the woman in charge tomorrow. She is the one who does the actual appeals...... I don't see this as going well, though I am a bit relieved it is only a Horn and not a Custom piece. Not sure if the shipping back will really be worth it. The one agent even told me the law is flawed an...

Small update....though not looking good. Because Customs has said it is a prohibited weapon( I can buy the knife here for twice the price or more) all the shipping companies I have talked to will not even touch it  So I have a knife sitting at customs, can't ship it to me, but can't ship it bac...

Mastiff, I will disagree with you on the edge holding of 3V. I have a Krein Micro Chef in 3V that is ground thin and holds an incredible edge...best so far from what I have seen/used.

What about just plain old S30V, Spyderco has very good heat treatment on that steel?
Also CPM 154????
