Re: Finally got a G-10 Manix

If you’re used to an axis lock the Manix 2 lock is stiff. You need to use both thumb and forefinger to actuate it.

I’ve never thought it was stiff to open.

My Native Chief LW is the stiffest Spyderco I’ve ever owned. I haven’t entirely figured out why. Maybe I should play with that screw.
Confirmed same issue on the Chief LW. No wonder I had so much issue with the action.

Re: Tell Me About The Serrated Z-Cuts

It's an absolute tomato killer, but for firm red onions, not so much, just a little too thin and flimsy. I've never had an issue with onions, potatoes, carrots, whatever. I don't force the blade, I let the edge do the work. The Z goes through them like a light saber. Z-cuts will go thru anything bu...

Re: Tell Me About The Serrated Z-Cuts

I have one. They’re very thin, flimsy knives. Which is what you want for slicing tomatoes… but they will not take a beating.

I don’t love the serrations in the kitchen. For anything of significant depth it steers in the cut.

In the bright side they are cheap.

Re: Native Chief Lightweight!!!

When I need to shorten a screw a scootch or two, I chuck it in my drill and spin it while holding the end to ... whatever, grinder, belt sander, file, etc. Sometimes I have to run a nut onto the screw to get a good grip. Added benefit is that I don't nick my delicate fingertips. There’s actually a ...

Re: An ongoing mystery: Why still no ffg Manix 2 SE? (NOT meant as a complaint)

Oh, so as to why not that specific model, I don’t have a perfect theory but serrations are fragile and the Manix 2 is more of a tough knife. Doesn’t really explain why the Shaman comes SE though.

Re: An ongoing mystery: Why still no ffg Manix 2 SE? (NOT meant as a complaint)

I am a huge SE fan. Almost all my Spydies are SE or CE. That said, I don’t really understand what keeps Spyderco making SE versions of so many of their knives. My observation is serrations are almost unknown in the folder world today. If serrated folders were profitable surely there would be a lot m...

It looks like S90V gets tempered up around 550C. So should be ok.

Re: Native Chief Lightweight!!!

I’ve had the same issue on other knives with trying to have the clip in tip down. The screws are just slightly too long. I put the ends of them on some sand paper to get a thread or two off. That worked so I was able to carry tip down and the screws wouldn’t protrude through the liners too far. Yea...

Re: Native Chief Lightweight!!!

Ok, I was a little worried I was throwing good money after bad, but I ordered an MXG clip. I think it was $27 shipped. https://i.imgur.com/CmlSxkLl.jpg It’s only about an 1/8th of an inch longer but the contact point is way closer to the tip. Huge win. It’s also slightly thicker material so I was ho...

Hard to keep in competition with fixed blade only companies.
This is a fact. Literally anyone can make a fixed blade. They are easier to get right and the fit/finish aspect is mostly just cosmetic.

Re: Is Spyderco missing out on the fixed blade market?

Spyderco designs, manufactures and sells knives in special steels. Every steel has its unique challenges. Sure, for the people who are into buying expensive knives in fancy steels, Spyderco is always compelling. Counterpoint: $130 Streat Beats and Subways in VG-10. The Bow River is the only fixed b...

Spyderco has been trying to break into the fixed blade market for years without much luck.
Really? Their fixed blades are always outrageously priced. There are at least some entry level options now. But Spyderco tries to charge folder prices for fixed blades.

I honestly can’t tell from the photos what you did. But 5 seconds with a ball bearing and a press will tighten up the lanyard tube.

Re: Salt steels for pool/chlorinated water.?

Chlorine is highly reactive. Regular stainless steels (300 series, etc) corrode easily. I think it’s because it reacts with more than just the iron and once the iron is isolated it can oxidize. But I’m no chemist.

Sounds like you need a bigger box.

Expensive: ABC — Always Buy Chaparrals. It’s not expensive by today’s standards. About $125.

Cheap: the Astute really surprised me. I carry it a lot.

Ok I'm giving it a shot. Not wild about the Spyderco clip not being designed right for this knife but the MXG clip looks to be the perfect length, it's inexpensive (for a clip), and the shipping is cheap.
