Thanks. I love how G10 smooths out and has unique grains from the layering to make it. It really does feel like glass wood.
I like the sheath, it would be somewhat in-between but more on the stiff side. You would want that to retain the knife and hold it from falling out. Only think I would add is ...

Re: Ordered MT36 K294, got a MT38 M398?
Received the MT28P2 SPY27 Straight Spine yesterday. Already had the new sheath and Spyderco Mule G-10 scales. Wet sanded the scales 60/150/400/800/1000/1500 then polished with 000 steel wool (filled sink and kept it in the water as G10 dust is toxic). Really came out great, feel smooth as glass and ...

Re: Do Golden-made knives come lubricated from the factory?
I take mine apart and Flitz the thin washer, Wilson Combat oil a drop or two on the pivot. I don’t oil the detent ball because it deadens the “click” sound we all love - if that love of the sound isn’t a big deal why are so many of us in therapy over our addiction of ‘finger flicking’ to the point ...

@Bolster, sent it back and now swapping for the straight spinned Spy27. So thanks for your feedback.
Not really as technical as many here so I’ll sharpen to my own ##dps freehand angle and use real world and see how it compares to others notes.

Thanks for the feedback!
Question, which would be a better “woods” knife for hiking and camping? M398, K294, or AEB-L?

Thanks Sal. My first Spyderco was in the Coast Guard over 30 years ago. Guy on my ship was a mail order dealer.

Ordered MT36 K294, got a MT38 M398?
After careful review of these forums, officially jumped into the Mule Team world and order the MT36 K294.Received today a MT38 Böhler M398 Microclean blade.
I had to search for MT38, as it’s not listed for sale on the website. It popped up as Sold Out.
It’s also $15 cheaper than the K294.

Re: MT Custom Wood Scales?
Nice modded scales, and nice set of stones. Shapton Pro if I'm not mistaken?
Yes sir, these are the Shapton Kuromaku whetstones. 1000/2000/5000 and if needed before I hit these I reprofile on a 400 diamond. Then hit the stones. I’ve actually had guys criticize me for carrying a knife this sharp ...

Re: MT Custom Wood Scales?
Hi USCGchief,
Welcome to our forum.
sal
Thanks Sal. Long time fan of your company. My first Spyderco was in 1991. I was a youngster in the Coast Guard stationed in Mobile AL and a guy - BM3 Kerr, cannot remember his first name, started showing one off. None of us Coasties had ever seen one ...
