Re: Sage 6, WHO'S EXCITED

Has anyone tried a reverse hammer grip?

Here are photos with a the blade tip out the pinky end of my hand. One photo is blade up and the other is blade down.
Blade down, I am not touching the button.
Blade up, the pad under my pinky finger can touch the button (in the photo it's just off), but ...

Re: Sage 6, WHO'S EXCITED

Question for those who have gotten their Sage 6 -
How centered is the lock bar when open on your example? Compared to a posted pic here and my Smock, the Sage seems very close to the edge of the blade and the button is obviously less proud when open.

Re: Sage 6, WHO'S EXCITED

My Sage 6 in S90V came today. I didn't want to risk missing the sprint run from one of the big retailers, so I bought it directly from the Spyderco online store at MSRP.
Impressions: It feels good in the hand. A little heavy at 3.02 oz, which increased to 3.03 oz. when I swapped in a deep-carry ...

Re: Sage 5 in REX 121 + burnt orange

I initially sharpened mine at 16 dps. Somewhere in cutting up a bunch of cardboard I got a tiny chip. It was annoying because every time I would slice paper, the knife would cut smoothly, then briefly hang up at the chip.
I added a secondary bevel at 20 dps using 950-grit diamonds for 15 strokes ...

Re: Sage 5 in REX 121 + burnt orange

I put a mirror edge on mine. I thought I was matching the factory angle, but I ended up a little steeper at 16.0 dps. It easily slices open envelopes and corrugated cardboard.

Hi Jshorter, Dr. Mems,
Welcome to our forum.

Thanks, Sal. It's an honor to meet you. I want to say two things here:
(1) Kudos for having the guts to make production knives from REX 121. I know the low toughness is a risk and that you were considering it a few years ago but went with Maxamet ...

Re: Sage 5 in REX 121 + burnt orange

My new Sage 5 Lightweight in Rex 121 is very similar in size and weight to my Para 3 in S110V.

Re: Sage 5 in REX 121 + burnt orange

Thanks, Mike, for the explanation.
I've been lurking on the forum for a decade and finally had to ask a question. I have half a dozen Spydercos, dating back to a Delica ClipIt with G-2 stainless steel and a sword grind--maybe from the early 1990s.

Re: Sage 5 in REX 121 + burnt orange

The "regular" compression-lock version of the Sage 5 REX 121 weighs 3.1 oz according to Blade HQ. The lightweight version doesn't seem lightweight at 3.0 oz. Can someone who owns one confirm the weight? Why is the lightweight not really lightweight?
