Re: Thoughts on Hogue Deka?

Happy New Year, folks. Resuscitating an older conversation, but hoping there might be opinions on newer Hogue Deka Magnacut heat treatment. Wondering if the great reviews (excepting the scales) and really good holiday pricing is worth the risk of a soft blade. Or should I just wait for the Para 3 S...

Re: did somebody say magnacut manix...?!

Another data point - my GP Rex 45 came with a nice, smooth action, and centered. Perhaps a tad stronger spring than others I have. I dyed it a nice red, and when I reassembled it I have the scale gap that looks like the first picture that gimibala posted. I didn't notice if that gap was there befor...

Re: did somebody say magnacut manix...?!

Okay, just due to some stubbornness on my part, the lock stick on my Salt does seem to be working itself through finally. My thumbs are not happy with me, but they'll get over it.

Re: Getting Full Value from Your Blade Length

I don't particularly care if a knife has a sharpening choil or not, I just care that if you are going to put one on the blade, you put it on there properly. There are way too many blades with "sharpening choils" that basically sit entirely behind the plunge grind, even though they aren't a...

Re: 2023 - Did your preferences change or stay the same?

Over this year I have gotten quite a bit fonder of folders, mostly because I bought an Endura last year. Up to that point I mostly preferred fixed blades, even though pocket knives got carried more do to the public view of carrying a fixed blade. To me folding knives were mostly a compromise to sat...

Re: did somebody say magnacut manix...?!

... truly bad lock sticking... I'm not 100% sure what counts as CBBL lock stick, is it an auditory and tactile "pop" as you unlock the knife? That the thumb stud does not move smoothly back, but takes some thumb pressure and then "pops" as it suddenly unlocks? If so, I have that...

Re: 2023 - Did your preferences change or stay the same?

2023 was my first year of owning Spyderco knives, so I guess I could say my preferences changed in that I started giving them a chance this year. I honestly used to just think the knives were too unappealing aesthetically to even consider. So in that sense I'd say I've continued to move towards func...

Re: did somebody say magnacut manix...?!

My Manix Salt also arrived today, and also had an off-centered blade like the image above (though I was similarly able to get it re-centered with a bit of fiddling with the screws as expected). My scales are also similarly ill-fitting against the back spacer, unfortunately. Almost seems like the sca...

Re: Favorite Spydercos You Got in 2023 - In Your Pocket in '24

I technically bought 3 in 2023 - the DLT Para 3 in CruWear & Purple G10, the "Stormtrooper" Manix 2 in Rex 45 and white FRCP, and the Manix 2 LW Salt in MagnaCut and yellow FRCP. That said, the Salt isn't going to arrive until tomorrow, so I can't really call it my favorite Spyderco of...

Scale swap to black.
How easy is it just to swap scales? I was thinking of changing the white LW scales from my Rex 45 version over to the Salt.

Re: Your Ideal Folder for Hiking & Backpacking is....

Mine isn't arriving until the 4th, but assuming that the build/feel/action is the same as my Rex 45 version, the Manix 2 Salt LW would probably be my choice (among Spyderco anyway). Of my entire collection, I'd also consider my Guardian 3.2 in MagnaCut. Either way I'd want one of my MagnaCut blades ...

Re: Looking for input on next Spyderco.

Of the ones in your list, I think I'd go with the PM2 CruCarta since you don't have a PM2 yet, and then maybe the K390 Delica since I think that knife is getting discontinued. I'd also consider tossing the Manix 2 Salt LW on that list; even though you have a Manix 2 LW (I also just got a Stormtroope...

Kind of annoying to see another price increase when inflation is not really to account for it.

Waiting for a "Stormtrooper" Rex 45 Manix 2 LW and a Manix 2 LW Salt. The former should be here tomorrow!

Re: did somebody say magnacut manix...?!

Now I know why my gut told me not to buy the REX45 M2s from gpk. The salty Manix is here! I was in this same dilemma looking for my first Manix 2 the past couple days... just decided I'm going to get both because GP Knives actually has the REX 45 in stock. Every time I blink the Salt is going in an...

Re: CPM MagnaCut | Edge Performance

There will be a release of the PM2 in MagnaCut sometime during 2024. This PM2 will have a different heat treatment than the unreleased prototype PM2 model that I had in 2021 for testing. I helped Spyderco with the heat treatment of the MagnaCut to help maximize the edge performance in a production ...

Dear Wallach: Welcome to the Spyderco Forum. Stay safe, Mike Thanks Michael! The aforementioned Para 3 showed up in my mailbox today as expected, and I'm definitely warming up to it. Not used to this kind of deployment though, and it already bit my thumb once (though thankfully nothing major). http...
