Thanks for the feedback.
This is not a Spyderco pictured, but an Emerson Persian that I sent in to Emerson for sharpening.
I specifically asked that extra care be taken to avoid overheating the edge / tip, and this was the end product.
I’ve had Spyderco knives come back from the factory burnt ...

Question about sharpening and burn marks
This is a question for experts on steel and sharpening.
One thing I’ve noticed, with Spyderco and other high end companies, is that it’s common for the edges (especially the tip of the blade) to come from the factory sharpening with a discoloration—usually dark or light orange, but sometimes black ...

Re: Just purchased a rare Matriarch
It’s true, the liner less design is extremely light weight, especially compared to the trend toward liners in all knives today.

Re: Just purchased a rare Matriarch
Thanks. I like the handle ergonomics on these models. The squared off pommel and contour of the clip fits the hand perfectly.
Late 90s early 2000’s seems to be a great era for Spyderco. The fit and finish on these are excellent.

Just purchased a rare Matriarch
I found a First Generation Matriarch with the Grey handle and ATS-55 blade. It’s NIB, and today I’m carrying it with my other Matriarch with the black handle.
I own a few current generation Matriarch models, and while the upgrades are appreciated, I prefer the thinner ground blade and more ...

Original Karambit (Warren Thomas)
I own the first Spyderco Karambit, the Warren Thomas. It’s an amazing piece, made to custom level quality. Reminds me of the fit and finish of a Sebenza.

Today I’m carrying my plain edge Massad Ayoob with plain edge, aluminum handle, VG-10 steel. It’s light weight yet extremely effective for its designed use.

Re: Masters of Defense CQD: a knife of its time
Dear American1776:
Congratulations on your purchase! You scored an early production of the CQD Mark I, before MOD added the glass breaker. I'm not sure how many of these were made, but compared to the version with the glass breaker, it was considerably fewer.
The reason the MOD knives give off ...

Masters of Defense CQD: a knife of its time
Back in the early 2000s I remember seeing ads for Masters of Defense knives. These were American made knives designed by various ‘experts’ in the areas of bladed martial arts.

Blade is 3.75 inches.
It stabs as well as it slashes—a rare combination.

Thanks!
The ATR, to me, is a more refined PM2. I have many different variations of the ATR. Compression lock, 3.5 inch blade, g-10 scales. Just my own personal preference.

A few old school models from my collection
From my collection: Massad Ayoob (aluminum), ATR Titanium, Lum Tanto (2001, g-10) Chinook (gen 1), Civilian (Aluminum, Kraton, Gin-1).
I carry the Massad Ayoob and Chinook the most often, and have multiple copies of each.
I think the ‘rarest’ one of this bunch is the ATR Titanium with serrated ...
