Re: Native 5 salt is Magnacut?
I finally bought one and was surprised to have a total pain while disassembling it. The lockbar pin was totally stuck in the lockbar, incapable of moving. This made the knife really hard to use and my plan of migrating blade and lockbar to a Ti + Backspacer body impossible. The lockbar pin had mate...

Re: Tips for Restoring a super pointy blade tip
Since you won't be using the top of the end of the blade (unless you are stabbing things), is there something recommended that you can paint on that area?

Re: Spyderco is like a horrible disease
In my case the cure for the knife disease was even more knives. Once I covered all my use cases, needs and wants i slowed down and abstained from buying any knife for almost two years now. Instead, i customized what I had. Today I have a Barkie Kephart on preorder and that's it. I am still waiting ...

Blade Length vs Edge length - Why does it matter? I am 63 and for the most part do not worry about having a record because I do not apply for work any more. If you apply for work, having a record can mean NOT WORKING, or not working in your desired field, I know this first hand. I was passed on for...

Re: Spyderco is like a horrible disease
If you guys think Spyderco pocket knives are a disease, then you should not get into high end Japanese kitchen knives. Just sayin ... This statement has made me spend 5 seconds analyzing my knife-buying habits :zany I say that because I only recently upgraded my kitchen knives (including 5 Spyderco...

Re: Sharpening stone(s) for a relative newbie?
A complete set of Spyderco's 302 Benchstones would be excellent. But I also believe everyone should own and learn to use a Spyderco 204 Sharpmaker. If you want to go to another higher level of freehand sharpening and gain better skills using benchstones then there is a book I highly recommend to al...

Re: Sharpening stone(s) for a relative newbie?
Can't go wrong with the Spyderco Medium and Fine benchstones. The Ultrafine gets a little pricey though. Some diamond emulsion on a strop may get you the finished edge you want. What he said. I have an Ultrafine and have never felt the need to use it. I also strop with diamond emulsion and find it ...

Re: Tips for Restoring a super pointy blade tip
https://forum.spyderco.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=94887&p=1718216#p1718216 I always do this by "bringing down" the spine as described in this thread. That's typically the best way to get the tip pointy again, although I certainly understand if you wouldn't want to remove the DLC coat...

Re: Is there a consensus sharpest folder?
I have read where members claim a certain model had the sharpest factory edge ever. My experience would be just the opposite with the same model - this has happened more than once. Not saying sharpness from the factory is random, but it's not 100% consistent. My Maxamet blades have all been very sha...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal
I just finished sharpening one of the BHQ PM2 Tanto sprints - my first Tanto sharpening (an authentic one!). When I received it, it appeared to have the factory edge but was very dull. There was chipping where the edges of the blade met, as if someone had been beating a piece of metal with it. I sha...

- The Dessert Warrior craze - probably the most disturbing of all. It's kitsch. i don't get the craze, but i think the original premise is hilarious. i like puns and wordplay, so the idea of taking a misspelling online and making it a reality is funny. what i don't like is overdoing a joke so that ...

I apologize but I haven't taken the time to read everything you wrote since my last post. I promise I will later. In the meantime, I had previously said I found it hard to believe that there were Chinese clones of the PM2 Tanto and I still believe that. I did a few web searches and I can't find a t...

Cobalt Special Mule (#09) to slice a couple of roasts for sandwiches.
Wonderfully-sharp knife that I bought 2nd-hand and was super-easy to bring up to speed - now on kitchen duty for the forseeable future.
