Would you rather?

Would you rather have a knife with a thin BTE (.015") or a thicker BTE (.025") but with a better steel for what you are going to use it for.

The knives I'm talking about are the GB2 and Maxamet PM2

Thanks

Do microbevels remove less metal than V shaped bevels when sharpening?

Topic says it all. I ask as I'm trying to make my knives last as long as possible.

Thanks to all who respond and vote in the poll!

Re: M4 Shaman vs Cruwear PM2 vs GB2

The shaman is a fine knife and carries exceptionally slim in the pocket for its size. It's just that for pure cutting power I always like the GB (2), maybe because of the hollow grind, not sure. This also isn't anything scientific, it just feels good in hand and cuts well. Also my experience on the...

Re: M4 Shaman vs Cruwear PM2 vs GB2

Get the GB2 now while you still can Is it going to discontinue? It's technically a collaboration model and those don't usually hang around long. I'm glad to see it's made it's this long. Not surprised though since Mr.Bradley's models are generally popular. Aside from being discontinued, they only m...

Mine are from Sharp Dress Knives. I've had more than a couple scales from Brian and they have all been great. These are the "Camo Canvas Micarta":

Why wouldn't you go with the Shaman as it is a coated blade? Thanks for the post Possum The shaman is a fine knife and carries exceptionally slim in the pocket for its size. Definitely hold out if you can. Getting them in hand is a great option if available. Your tastes can change as you use it if course. But get them in hand when possible.
Here are the dates for the show

Dec 17th – 18th, 2022

Re: M4 Shaman vs Cruwear PM2 vs GB2

What are main differences in the Manix and Shaman? I can only speak to the Manix 2 but it is a very heavy duty knife with an extremely strong ball lock. The scales are fully lined with steel and there is a ton of jimping for better grip. It also has a leaf blade shape making the tip stronger tham t...

Re: M4 Shaman vs Cruwear PM2 vs GB2

I tend to use the tip on my knives. So right now its between Shaman and GB2, unless another knife comes along. Thanks for the post. Manix 2… if you can find it in a steel you like. It’s falls between the PM2 and Shaman and is an extremely tough knife. But it does not have the big price the Shaman d...

Re: M4 Shaman vs Cruwear PM2 vs GB2

I would pick the GB2 any day... My only issue is that the M4 (regardless which knife) starts picking up black spots within a day in the pocket. I wish we would get a GB2 in something like S90V... I would be set. Why wouldn't you go with the Shaman as it is a coated blade? Thanks for the post Possum...

Re: M4 Shaman vs Cruwear PM2 vs GB2

I have all 3 and I voted GB2. It's cutting performance is on a whole different level to the other two. The detent is light but easily fixed if you are a tinkerer. Lots of info on this forum but I just pulled mine apart and slightly enlarged the detent hole by hand with a diamond burr designed for a...
