Re: MagnaCut Corrosion Resistance testing thread

So essentially magnacut is 4v with the corrosion resistance of Lc200n… that’s incredibly impressive. Just out of curiosity, have you tried this test with Vanax? In theory, vanax should be more stainless than either magnacut or Lc200n. I doubt we’ll ever see it in a production knife due to supply and ...

Re: CPM MagnaCut | Edge Performance

Dr. Larrin can surely speak for himself, but I do not recall him poo pooing M390 or its equivalents. He recommended it at one time, but roughly a year ago switched the recommendation to S90V over M390 if you are looking for stainless with edge retention balance. Again, never poo pooed M390 ...

Re: CPM MagnaCut | Edge Performance

Interesting that M390 seems to have made a very good showing in comparison, unless I'm reading the charts wrong. Didn't Dr. Thomas say that he wasn't especially fond of M390? I'm pretty sure I heard him say that in an interview recently. I wonder why, since it seems to be such a good performer ...

Re: CPM MagnaCut | Edge Performance

If I missed this I apologize. From a sharpening standpoint, what does Magnacut compare to? Or what is the closest steel as far as sharpening response?

The mule at 62-63 feels kinda like s35vn and is really easy to sharpen. I have a custom at 65 which feels a lot glassier on non diamond stones ...

Re: MagnaCut Corrosion Resistance testing thread

Good stuff, thanks. I'm sure his has already been answered somewhere, but how easily does Magnacut sharpen compared to LC200N/H1?

Really depends on the heat treat. Magnacut isn’t a nightmare to sharpen by any means even at an extreme HRC, but it’s kind of a steel where using diamonds speeds ...

Re: CPM MagnaCut | Edge Performance

From my experience with a custom magnacut fixie at 65 HRC and the mule, magnacut sharpens very very well on non diamond water stones (Choseras) at 62-63 HRC (the mule). It's harder to sharpen at 65 on the choseras but still very much doable. Getting diamond stones like the venevs might be ...
