I believed someone on the forum confirmed there was a caly 4 prototype at the last shotshow. Hopefully it gets revealed sometime this year

Re: First official knife cut out and in progress.

Looks great , nice project . What is the thickness ar spine and do you have a grind you prefer ? MG2 Thanx MG2, it’s coming along better than I expected, I have a little more work to do on the overall profile before I move on to the bevel work, but I’m really satisfied with how clean it’s shaping u...

Re: First official knife cut out and in progress.

Is sanding and hand filing micarta as simple as wood? The actual work is just as simple. Make sure you have a good breath mask, and preferably also some air filtration running. Micarta dust isn't as bad as G-10 dust, but it's a lot rougher on your lungs than wood dust. Persistent, hacking cough for...

Amazing. I like the design. I assume you will lighten the handle?
Thanks very much for the kind words, and yes the handles gonna get some bigger holes drilled out to lighten the weight as well as pin holes, this steel I’m working on is some stout stock.

Re: Your favorite color combination?

The gray g10/superblue steel combo.
That gray g10 gathers a wear over time, combined with a patina’d steel is beautiful

Re: First official knife cut out and in progress.

What are you doing for scales? I haven’t quite made up my mind on it yet. I got some cherry wood I think would look nice, but my ideal scales would be polished black linen micarta, sourcing and machining those with what tools I got sounds challenging though. If anyone knows, Is sanding and hand fil...

First official knife cut out and in progress.

IMG_5295.jpeg IMG_5291.jpeg IMG_5292.jpeg If anyone saw my last design in my design sketch thread. I traced it out in marker on a bar of steel, and used a free hand grinder to rough cut it out and a little thicker of a grinding wheel to clean it up followed by some file work. Here’s how it currentl...

Re: Just a knife design sketch

I hope if anything this design serves as an idea proposal to spyderco to make a knife like this in this shape and size, I think Sal would know how to take the idea I’m shooting for here and refine it better than I can, I believe it would be a beautiful piece, and I’d definitely buy one though it’d b...

Re: Just a knife design sketch

;) Here is what I thought would be a cool comparison shot, my goal in drawing this knife basically was what if you took the calypso jr design and adapted it into a fixed blade without a finger choil and full 3” cutting edge. My dream would be to have the handle material and finish identical to the o...

Re: Just a knife design sketch

IMG_5238.jpeg IMG_5237.jpeg Here is some measurement references. This design is pretty close, (can’t say perfect) to an ideal edc fixed blade design for me. For materials I’m starting out with high carbon 52100, cherry wood handle and steel pins. Eventually wanna get something a little more stainle...

Re: Just a knife design sketch

Yup. But a bit different. Main differences being a slimmer more neutral handle and a larger thumbramp. For the handle I was inspired by the original C model handles like the worker, and the Caly jr blade enlarged.

It would be cool if spyderco made a fixed blade like this. Very typical spyderco ergonomics in a fixed blade but a little more slim and neutral than the enuff fixed blade. And with a more calypso style blade and thumb ramp

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??

Agreed...the Caly Jr. has an exceptionally nice lock release. This is the best spyderco/glesser edc folder design. Just beautiful, functional, and combines all of spydercos core design elements. The black micarta is THE version for me, but I also do like the unique texture for the frn version of th...
