Cool! It's definitely tempting but I think I'll wait until they do a Lil Native. ;)
Man those black liners look awesome but I'm with you I can wait on a Lil' Native in this combo.

Re: Cruwear Micarta PM2 Full liners

I was disappointed at first sounded like going backwards. Then I thought about my Cruwear Manix 2 with full liners. That knife is amazing even though I own the LW Manix 2 as well. That was the first knife I made scales for and it was only possible because the full liners. I think its a great idea be...

Rex 45 sharpening

I have been looking at Rex 45 as my next steel purchase. I'm most concerned with how it sharpens. If anyone has experience I would like to hear your thoughts. In my small exposure to "super steels" some seem to take a keen edge quickly while others take time. S110V is a steel that takes me a long ti...

Re: My first PM 2 but is it real or fake?

Hi, I need your help with my (hopefully) Spyderco PM 2. I have the same knife but from the seconds sale direct from Spyderco. Yours looks real from all the pictures. The lanyard tube looks like mine. Yours is even sharpened like mine where they didn't touch where a sharpening choil usually goes. Th...

Re: Slip-it variants

Perhaps because it really isn't one, there are some differences beside the lock. Yeah I overlayed images of both earlier. It looks like there's changes to handle and blade length as well as different pinning. I'm always curious of the stories behind why certain knives are made. I really enjoy the y...

Well, the UK penknife is basically a slipjoint version of Caly 3
Its weird Spyderco changed the name of the Caly 3 and Vesuvius when the lock changed. Then you have the Sage and Manix(maybe more) that have more than one lock type.

I just hope ZMax is like Maxamet when it comes to sharpening. I'm really enjoying my PM2 Maxamet.

Re: Z-Max mule!

KnifeSteelNerds did a variety of testing and graphing on 48 steels, including Z-Max (which is chemically equivalent to Rex-86): https://knifesteelnerds.com/2020/05/01/testing-the-edge-retention-of-48-knife-steels/ Not to simplify the results too much, but Larrin assumed a similar toughness to Maxam...

Slip-it variants

How often are Slip-it versions made of locking knives? I ask because I was surprised by the Lil' Native Slip-it in Reveal 7.

I think it’s interesting, but I’m not very familiar with the steel.
Isn't it Zapp's version of Cru-wear or PD1?

Edit: I see, it is NOT the same. I was thinking of Z-wear. Sorry.
Its closer to Maxamet than Cruwear.

Jeez! Another one I want and I'm still waiting on SPY27...

This reveal looked slightly expensive for me.
I'm still wondering what MT30 will be. Sal has talked about protos in Rex-121, Vanax, and a 18% tungsten steel. The 18%w steel might be from ZAPP they seem to make a few types.

all the tooling for Centofante's C-50 model was destroyed.

Re: Past Spyderco Collaborators You Would Like To See Again?

I would love to see an update to the Frank Centofante Vesuvius. I had a chance to use one with a comp lock and ATS34. It would be awesome to make it like a mini Kapara with a FFG and updated comp lock. The steel could use an upgrade also.

Re: General Forum Knife Question - Serial Numbers?

Hello and belated Happy New Year all In general do the annual Spyderco forum knives have individual serial numbers? Is it possible that the factory did this for some years and not others? TIA AUXCOM I believe only the older forum knives had "x out of x" numbers but the new ones should be numbered f...

Re: Where do the Elements go in steels like Maxamet.

I should really get larrin's book Is sulfur intentionally added, or is it a "contaminant" ? Most of the carbon is locked up in carbide, but the remaining 0.6% is enough to get the matrix into the high 60s hrc? Yeah I need to get the book too. This article has some info on what your after. https://k...

Re: Where do the Elements go in steels like Maxamet.

Another interesting feature is that the Carbides are not purely a single element but more rich in a certain element and have other elements filling the voids in the atomic unit cell. Not sure if you seen my post about xmas carbides. It shows tungsten carbide with different carbon %. I know its not ...
